Gran Turismo 6: “We actually do have a PS4 version in mind”, says Yamauchi

Monday, 15th July 2013 11:34 GMT By Dave Cook

Gran Turismo 6 hits PS3 later this year, but Polyphony Digital president Kazunori Yamauchi has stated that the company has a PS4 version in mind during a new interview.

Speaking with OPM, Yamauchi said, “We actually do have a PS4 version in mind,” although he didn’t say much more on the matter.

The game has 1,200 cars and Yamauchi’s desire for authenticity across the board has let to cars handling more accurately than ever. He said that his team’s data capture for vehicles is attributed to a lot of driving and sensors.

“Driving a racing car, you control it with a lot of different sensors mounted on the car, he explained. “We’re able to collect a lot of different data: how the ride height of the car changes when you’re driving, how that changes in relation to the aerodynamics, and how your steering balance changes.

“Two weeks ago I drove the Nissan GTR GT3 on the Nürburgring, and we collected the data from that car as well – and when we returned to Japan we fed all this data into Gran Turismo. I drove the same [car and track] in Gran Turismo, and started to realise what was different.”

Do you want to take to Gran Turismo 6′s tracks and feel how the cars handle for yourself? No bother. Just download the demo and take it for a spin.

    The demo just isn’t fun.

The AI is still moronic, there’s not much of a sense of speed.

    It’s a simulator, not a game.
Should be in the same category as Flight Sim X or Train Simulator 2013.

How many times has it been stated that a PS4 version is likely?

Just downloaded and played the Demo at the weekend…

    It was awful…

It’s still not a complete simulation, there are still ‘arcadey’ elements. It’s just the balance is so ‘off’ it isn’t fun.

It’s stuck between 2 worlds and Forza does everything better IMO.

@1, Hopefully AI is something they really work on next gen. MS seem to have made that a focus for Forza 5.

I played the Academy Demo also. Golded everything but not by more than a second. Placing in 18-24,000′s. If I had a wheel I would try harder.

Skipping the PS3 version in order to keep my love for GT fresh. Needs new tech – can’t wait to see what Kaz has in store for PS4.

I’m all for PS4 this gen, but I will miss Forza (single player, no crashing, no bs).

It simply drives better with all helps off.
Gran Turismo IS more realistic in some areas, but forza feels more authentic in the end.
