Disney Infinity Play Sets explained in new video

Monday, 1st July 2013 06:19 GMT By Brenna Hillier

Having outlined the world creation Toybox mode, Disney would like to draw your attention to Disney Infinity’s playsets, which are pre-arranged collections of locations, games and characters based on specific franchises.

Disney Infinity arrives in August on 3DS, PC, PlayStation 3, Wii, Wii U and Xbox 360 with companion mobile apps expected to follow. It’s considered a major rival to Skylanders as the only other significant toys-to-life release. It supports multiplayer and allows players to create and share their own adventures as well as play co-operatively and competitively in Play Sets.

Thanks, CVG.

    As I thought.

This is where this will fail and Skylanders will inevitably succeed. They don’t (remotely) understand children any more, which is particularly sad for the house of mouse. It’s been going downhill since the arse-end of the Eisner era, and they’ve showed an increasing level of disconnect with their audience since then.

Whilst these characters might be okay for films, they just don’t fit into the game-space. Compared to the Skylanders line-up, these toys are boring. The reason Skylanders was such a success was because the toys were visually exciting. You had toys such as a living fireball in a magical suit of armour; A robo-dragon; A fishman with a harpoon gun/water cannon; A very amusing Australian dinosaur (complete with boomerangs), and so on.

So my money’s still on Skylanders. It amazes me really just how out of touch Disney are.

Disney revenue in 2012 was 42 BILLION!! this is clearly a company out of touch with it’s audience.

The Toy Story 3 game just scratched the surface of what’s possible, becoming a big hit. I hope you’ll be back to comment when this one goes through the roof

the only fun characters are the monster inc, the rest are bland and boring and not worth buying. had they been smart they would have done the duck universe, with their iconic ducks that disney is well known for. then this could have serious taken off. but bland and boring disney infinity will go nowhere, it will just be a fade for a year or two…

Ducks??? Say what you will about your personal opinion, but the Cars brand ALONE has topped a billion dollars!! not to mention what Toy Story has done.

@4 donald duck and co was long before any cars kiddo, and have made more billions to walt disney than anything they have created after. i am also sure the parents will be more willingly to spend their money on the duck universe. than on some bland pirate, superhero and other boring characters no one cares about.

Who’s to say Infinity will not add Donald or any of the classic characters, I’m only suggesting that it wasn’t necessarily a bad move for the developers to begin their game with the second largest merchandised kids brand today (Cars). Again, Cars may not be your thing, but For you to state that nobody cares about this IP without considering the revenue it has generated only exposes you lack of knowledge on the subject.
