Metal Gear Solid – Just Add Water pens open letter to Kojima expressing interest in Fox remake

Thursday, 27th June 2013 13:57 GMT By Stephany Nunneley

Just Add Water would love the opportunity to re-make the classic Metal Gear Solid using the Fox Engine, and have penned an open letter to Hideo Kojima expressing such interest.

While Kojima has acknowledged that his comments regarding his wish for a third-party to remake the game were mistranslated, he has said he wouldn’t mind it.

“If there’s some creator or team in this world who has love and passion to remake “MGS1″, I would love to ask for it,” he tweeted.

Well, JAW is one. Here’s the studio’s letter in full:

We read with great excitement on VG247 that you were looking for a studio to work with to develop a Metal Gear Solid remake using the Fox Engine, that your team has been hard at work creating.

We at Just Add Water feel ideally positioned to do the remake justice for several reasons:

  • We have experience working with legendary IP (Oddworld Inhabitants) and treating the subject matter with the respect it deserves.
  • Many members of our team are huge Metal Gear fans, with very good knowledge of the source material.
  • We really, really want to do it.

For evidence of our abilities, please check out not only the HD treatment of Oddworld: Stranger’s Wrath, released on PlayStation3, VITA and PC, but the current re-creation of Abe’s Oddysee, titled Oddworld: New ‘n’ Tasty.

We eagerly await your response.

Love and cuddles,
The JAW Team.

Hopefully Kojima will see JAW’s letter and respond. We wish them the best of luck with it.

While Hideo
Well,

    Love and cuddles? Hehe.
Anyways why not? I saw their tweet before the letter was made. Guess they’re really serious and sound passionate about it.

This is moving quickly, its like a whirlwind romance :P

Edit: If I am not mistaken, their Oddworld ports were hit and miss with graphical errors. I’m currently struggling getting Stranger’s Wrath to work T_T

If they are genuinely passionate about it and big fans of MGS,then sure why not.

For fks sake, why can’t kojima do the remake or even better a re imagining of mgs1, but following the same story. I wouldn’t buy any mgs game made by someone else.

@7 there needs to be a proper mgs1 redone from the ground up that doesn’t look or play exactly like mgs1.

@8 it didn’t look exactly like the first one, it was done with the MGS2 engine and several scenes were modified or added

Interesting choice, I would be interested in seeing how it would pan out.

@8 dude… Look up the definition of “remake” ffs!
Silicon Knights remade MGS1 via “Twin Snakes” which was awesome btw but some minority moaned because it embelished cutscenes.. Now we have people like @8 saying to make it different?!?!?!?

    Simply can’t win.

I think this is a great idea and incredibly stoked that a developer are as much fans as gamers to make public there intentions for a remake.

Who are we to doubt there passion?! Go for it I say, fuck all the doubters/haters.

    @KAP
The cutscenes were too over the top: jumping on missiles, Backflips and taking on three armed guards and surviving a blow to the head for a few seconds. All i want is a remake that doesn’t betray the standards of MGS, that means none of the above.

I agree with #12.. I would be happy if they keep things as realistic as they were in the original and if it wasn’t buggy + (Make Sure Camera View change doesn’t break the game)

@12 – Exactly. Keep that sort of crap WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY out of any Metal Gear Solid remake.

I would be happy with a just straight-up story/cutscene remake of MGS1 with the same voice actors and the gameplay of MGS3.

MGS1 Remake would be extremely short, it can just be an open world mission as an epilogue or even a DLC in MGSV. There are just cut-scenes, mocaps and voice overs that need a lot of work. Kojima can totally do it himself after finishing MGSV, can do the whole project in a year.
