The Elder Scrolls Online will not have cross-platform play

Tuesday, 11th June 2013 23:24 GMT By Brenna Hillier

PlayStation 4 and Xbox One players will not be rubbing shoulders with their PC and Mac offsiders – or each other – in The Elder Scrolls Online.

Responding to a question on Twitter, Zenimax Online confirmed the different versions of the game will be hosted on different servers.

“The Elder Scrolls Online’s megaserver technology will allow PC and Mac players to play together,” the developer said.

“Xbox One and PlayStation 4 players will have distinct megaservers.”

If we’re interpreting that correctly, it means there will be three megaservers, keeping us all firmly corralled in our platform camps.

The MMORPG launches in northern spring 2014.

One day… A developer will have the brains and balls to create an MMORPG that pits the Xbox vs Playstation players, similar to the Alliance and Horde in WoW

But until that day… I will label all “no cross-platform play MMO” developers as lazy and/or stupid -__-

Its understandable between Xbox and Playstation, but why not between PC and one of the two consoles?

Toastrule, it has already been done with Final Fantasy XI, on PC PS2 and Xbox 360, with everyone on the same servers. FF XIV will do the same.

Valve lets PC and PS3 players play together in portal 2. Why couldn’t they mix in ps4 with PC players at least? I understand it is more complex, but still, its been done before on a smaller scale.

It doesn’t matter to me though. Im done with MMO games for quite awhile. Ive been burned out on them.

Makes sense when there is PvP in a game. A pad cannot keep up with the response time and accuracy of a mouse. Plus, the PC version will probably have mods whereas the console version will just be the base UI.

I do think the Add-On thing will be the main reason to not allow PC gamers and Console gamers to fight it out.

No idea why they won’t allow Xbox and PS players on the same server. Do they really think they will get enough paying players to keep a server or more for each console without making it look desolate and empty?

That’s a shame. If it’s something ridiculous like PvP players having an advantage in PvP, then the solution is to separate the PvPers and allow the PvE players to play together regardless of platform.
