AMD ‘Be Invincible’ trailer gives a taste of Xbox One & PS4 tech

Tuesday, 4th June 2013 10:27 GMT By Dave Cook

AMD has release a trailer called ‘Be Invincible’ that showcases it’s ‘A Series’ chipsets, which are housed within Microsoft’s Xbox One and Sony’s PS4 console.

We reported on a $3 billion-plus deal between AMD and Microsoft for Xbox One last week, and you can see a glimpse of what the deal has resulted in above. AMD has also created chip-sets for PS4, but the exact cost of the deal has yet to be disclosed.

What do you make of the above clip? Let us know below.

Looks like Crysis and Metal Gear had a baby. There may have been a Jedi in there too…

And I am glad I can witness another fanboy war on YouTube, so I have bookmarked it for later viewing.

They need to make that video into a game asap.

Why did MS pay so much? How much did Sony pay?

If only the games would like that.

@7 – Because Microsoft doesn’t care about how much it spends. It just wants to see how much it can make, and they can do that as they have billions at its disposal.

Sony terms, as Dave states, has yet to be disclosed, I’m afraid.

1.People, understand that $3billion (not confirmed)is not a one-time payment, its probably depends on sales and is a multiple year contract.
2.PS4 uses the same tech, however its 50% more powerful than X1. Not surprisingly Sony would probably be paying more.

    Yeah, I thought that! :)

How long will it take Sony to cut a profit what with this huge deal and expensive RAM etc…?

    Here’s a funny thing:
This is a “tech-demo” but it was the art design of the first part (electro thingies) that impressed me the most, not the technical stuff / graphical-power.

Still, a true impressive demo overall. Hopefully next-gen games learn from both its technical prowess AND it’s art direction (Or at least, those electro monsters in the crazy digital field).

First of all, I’m skeptical whether this is really all real-time. The particle effects remind me a LOT of the look somewhat typical for Krakatoa (depends on the artist, I suppose).
And secondly, compared to the gameplay things seen so far, I seriously doubt companies would be able to achieve this kind of fidelity in actual games.

@11 – at least a year or two for profit, providing it sells very well.

AMD have serious financial problems and even such deals like the X1, have a serious chance of not saving them. Intel and NVidia have almost monopoly like graps of the PC market and Intel are also building a lot of supercomputers.

So if developers don’t chance things on the PC and choose to use more AMD based products for “better experience” on the PC side, I see them as goners. The profit they do on any console unit is most probable nonexistent, because of the needed low price, MS and Sony taking the lion share of the pie. Most probably this money are just for development of the hardware and some royalties.

As of now AMD have neither something comparable to the i7 chipset for the regular guy, neither a Titan fighting GFX. So if they don’t step their game soon, it will be very bad for everybody.

Before something jumping at me saying that how this is connected, you must understand that AMD are mostly PC hardware producer, their core profit comes for this and it is not going well here for them, even if the next-gen consoles sell shitloads of units, things will not be mucn better for them.

My processor alone is more powerfull then 3 of that twat series of an ancient coelurosaurian theropod dinosaur.

Yeah, AMD is indeed in big trouble. the cheapest processors on the market right now that will be changed this year. Well, oh dear.

If you really believe that if your processor will be more powerfull and because of power it will cost more you should just turn off your PC/Mac right now and kill yourself because of your stupidity. World does not need you.

If 3 billion is true (which is not confirmed and was a rumor from some stupid employer.. whatever), that means that AMD had a lot of work with MS researching together it’s technology so it could work with 3 OS’s on one console for example or do some other important tasks. There are a lot of stuff that require engineers and a lot of men power to make device actually work and be reliable.

Sony could pay 1 billion or even less and take it’s processor (more powerfull one) and do the job themselves by changing a lot of stuff using it’s own staff, but you should know one thing for sure that you should not visit the internet and “I’m stooopid Sony/MS fanboy” talking seriously silly stuff j/k

Cost is not just for processor. Any device require engineers or maybe console was alone made by AMD. There are a lot of things you don’t know and I don’t know at all.

@25 So long as this gives them enough money to pop out SteamRoller I’ll be happy :). Might be their first competitive performance product for a what seems like an age.

  29. DSB

@27 Steamroller is gonna happen anyway, but do they still have an audience at this point?

Console deals look impressive, but I believe Microsoft has sold something like 70 million 360s, which roughly adds up to the amount of PCs sold every quarter. There’s no doubt where the real money would be for AMD.

This is really the last shot in the chamber for them. They’ve pulled out of mobile, so if they fail to pull off a miracle and snag some Intel customers, they’re done. And Intel is something like ten times their size, they can outspend them every step of the way.

    #29 11 months ago
  30. Samoan Spider

@29 I entirely agree this is their last proper shot. The console deals have been the lifeline and they completely redid their road map. Intel can outspend them but AMD have always beaten them on price and that used to stand for something once back in the day when AMD chips had huge OC potential and performance to keep pace with far more expensive offerings. Intel left them for dust in later years but I’m certain they still have an audience, even if it’s only 25% of the market it’ll keep them going if SteamRoller and Kaveri work out.

@24: He may not have expressed it in a reasonable way but I do think that I read somewhere that VG247 has a zero tolerance policy when it comes to homophobic language? His post clearly violated that. And there is nothing immature about trying to keep a certain level when it comes to the standards of a community.

    #31 11 months ago
  32. xxJPRACERxx

@31: Context is important too. I don’t think there’s anything homophobic in Erthazus post, just poor choice of words.

    #32 11 months ago
  33. G1GAHURTZ

^ Maybe you missed it, but tea got a perma-ban for saying something “homophobic”, so Erthazus should too.

    Fair is fair.

  34. Christopher Jack

He said gaymer, clearly not a typo & yes, a little homophobic, but hardly ban-worthy. It’s not as if he said “all faggots must die”. I’m sure we’ve all shouted fag at someone at one point or another without even considering it’s modern definition. I mean how many of us say fuck without considering at the time that it means sex?

You should read his first paragraph where he basically told someone to kill themselves because the ”world don’t need them”.

^ You used the word “BITCHES“, then you replaced it with the word “GAYMERS”!

Now try and tell me you weren’t using it in a negative/offensive context…

    #42 11 months ago
  43. KineticCalvaria

@41, what does that have to do with calling everyone gaymers? Just cos it’s some guys name doesn’t make it any less offensive. We know what you meant, it’s not acceptable to use gay in a derogatory manner, which you clearly did.

  44. redwood

please forgive erth …It’s hard for erth to be on vg247, cause of the accute lack of PC and Nvidia news, which in turn is cause of the fact that pc gaming is more about buying new graphic cards and hardware than it is about games.

    #44 11 months ago
  45. Gekidami

Erthazus should just be banned for just being an all-round douchebag, honestly. But anyway, “bitches” is sexist, “gaymers” is childish and the type of thing a 11 year old tard like him would say, but yes, above all its homophobic.

The hammer should fall, it should have a long time ago.

The weird thing is that I’m not sure how this is supposed to look better in regards to fidelity or graphics technology. Pick any PC game from two or so years ago ran with a high-resolution texture mod pack and that would actually look superior to this in regards to the aforementioned fidelity and graphics technology. I dare say even the original Crysis with mods still looks better than this. So it was an utter disappointment on that front because I was expecting to see something new.

HOWEVER. What got me, as The_Red said, was the art style and direction. That was actually pretty great and made it a very enjoyable experience. I too would like to see a game with this particular style, as it was quite refreshingly different. So whilst this absolutely fails as a tech demo, it succeeds in trying to sell me a game that doesn’t exist (yet).

    @48

What you see there is the reason I got banned from RPS. I was defending console users against anti-console elitism and… they didn’t take kindly to that. In fact, they rightly flipped every possible shit they could flip, including the site administrators. So yes, that sort of elitism is very real, unfortunately, but we’re not all like that.

However, the sad truth is is that there’s even a form of console elitism going on around here. Have you seen… who is it? Loki? PS3fanboy? Those guys? They’re constantly going on about PC piracy, and how PC gamers are idiots, and they’ve trolled a huge number of PC articles.

So… sadly? No one is innocent. They annoy me as much as the pricks at RPS did.
