congratulation xboxfanboys now you don’t have to pay a fee to pay netflix for its usage… and by the way here at sony camp we have had this option for years to not pay an extra fee to use online features.

Oh noes, you have to pay 0.13 dollars a day for a superior online service with cross game chat and zero monthly maintenance.

Whatever shall you do? Live on bread and water every day in order to afford it? Buy one beer instead of three every weekend? Skip McDonalds this month?

Choice is yours, but only a whiny fanboy complains about paying for Xbox Live.

    #12 2 years ago
  13. Djoenz

    @12

Its not about being able to afford it retard. Its about accepting to pay for shit that is a basic feature.

    Now piss off brainwashed xbot.

    #13 2 years ago
  14. Hcw87

So if it’s a basic feature, why doesn’t PSN offer cross game chat? Why is it offline several times a month for maintenance?

You get what you pay for, similar with MMO’s. Subscription based MMO’s are superior both in customer support and content.

Now before calling me a ”xbot”, ask yourself this. Do you own an Xbox, Playstation or Wii? Fanboys typically only own one system and i’m guessing you only have a PS3. I own all 3, and play on all 3. Can’t really call me a fanboy of anything, just stating facts. Xbox Live is a superior service, anyone with a brain agrees.

    #14 2 years ago
  15. Djoenz

    @14

Playing multiplayer = basic feature yes.
Crossgame chat is it really that wonderful?

I would agree with you if MP was free. Basically xbox owners are forced to pay up otherwise no COD,Halo.

  16. salarta

@12: Actually, bread isn’t cheap food anymore because of all the treatment done to it, and water’s only cheap because you can get it from water fountains all over the place. Oh, and there are a lot of bills that adults not in college need to pay, so that money adds up. $3-5 per month can be quite a bit when you have tons of bills just like it. Plus, ideally you want to be able to set some money aside for emergencies.

  19. lexph3re

LMFAO! Never thought id see the day when people consider multiplayer premium and x chat a basic feature. XD Thats golden lol shouldn’t that be reversed? How did a company convince people that a basic feature is a premium and a premium is a basic?

I dont even doubt MS convincing people that the next box is the only way for you to get TV now. People will say “Hey! TV doesn’t do from TV like my xbox!” LmFAO!

    #19 2 years ago
  20. Richenbaum

well…because 360 was out a year before ps3 and regular xbox several years before that. before those days it wasn’t a feature on other consoles at all, much less a basic one (unless you want to count the halfassed Dreamcast)

    #20 2 years ago
  21. lexph3re

Dreamcast had free online, Gamecube had free online, PS2 had free online, PC has free online….. see the pattern?

    #21 2 years ago
  22. zinc

Xbox live is obviously the best online service, because it has a price, how can you value something it you don’t pay for it?

And the adverts? That’s just how MS keeps the costs down & are able to afford the soon to be classic Halo TV series!

    #22 2 years ago
  23. Keivz

Putting netflix behind the pay wall is indefensible. I have a gaming PC, PS3, and 360 and tried live gold for 3 months and I honestly don’t see much of a difference. Cross game chat? I couldn’t care less. Frequent maintenance? I honestly don’t notice and find that to be a wild exaggeration and certainly not worth paying upwards of $50 a year to avoid. And again, putting services like netflix behind the pay wall is indefensible. PC, PS3, smartTV, smartphones, tablets–none of these gadgets do this. It’s incredible how MS has managed to brainwash so many people. It’s by far gaming’s biggest scam.

    #23 2 years ago
  24. polygem

well i think live is/ was great and i prefer/ed playing online on my 360 but basic online should still be free, making netflix a gold service plus covering the dash of your paid services with ads is just a crime. no matter how you turn this, as a customer you should not support this, because the moment you swallowed that, everything will only go downhill from there. now look at xboxone and you see…we are to blame for that ourselves i guess. just do not buy into this shit. easy.

    #24 2 years ago
  25. DarkElfa

Wow, you have to be a Gold sub to use Netflix? Are you fucking serious?

How are these terds still in business?

    #25 2 years ago
  26. Shuklar

The only people that want cross game chat are Chatty Cathys.

If I wanted to talk with my friends, I’d be in their company doing something together…not while sitting on my couch with my attention diverted to a game they’re not even playing with me. The argument is retarded, so shut the fuck up already.

Enjoy your access to otherwise free content non-Live users.

    #26 2 years ago
  27. Ireland Michael

@26 Cross Game Chat is pretty much the sole reason I play multiplayer titles on the 360 over the PS3, because I actually *do* want to talk to my friends while playing games. We all have jobs and other commitments that take up most of our time (joys of being an adult), and just meeting and hanging out isn’t always an option. So it’s an extremely convenient way for us to catch up and chat and enjoy stuff together.

#27 Yes, it’s useful, just like shoelaces, yet it’s not worth paying Microbesoft extra for. Either is paying a third party (MS) extra to unlock multiplayer features you’ve already paid for on the disc. XBL as a pay service is a joke.

Quality, that. Well, it’s a Sony.

  34. CyberMarco

@33 What are you mumbling about? What Sony accessory exactly? Your trolling is a bit hard to follow…

    #34 2 years ago
  35. Da Man

Let me educate you, ignorant devotee.

First you needed the network adapter for PS2, sold separately. Available a couple of years after the launch.

Then you had the hdd, available separately a couple of years into console lifecycle, never released in Europe.

Thus, PS2 had hardly ‘free’ online (if any =) )

You need to face the facts that calling inferior products inferior isn’t related to mockery or jokes (‘trolling’ in nerdglish)

    #35 2 years ago
  36. Clupula

@36 – Someone doesn’t remember that the slim models of the PS2 had the network adapter built in.

    #36 2 years ago

that must have been pretty comforting to everyone that already bought the system years earlier.

    #37 2 years ago
  38. Da Man

Nah, someone has a limited understanding of the term ‘straw man’. For internet dwelling hardcore it’s critical.

Yep, you could buy a whopping PS2 with built-in ethernet at around the time the servers became irrelevant and X360 was released.

    #38 2 years ago
  39. Djoenz

The original xbox360 had no wifi adapter build in yeah go ignore tht.
PS2 didnt need internet shit I didnt even have internet at the time.

    Delusional people man brainwashed.

    #39 2 years ago
  40. Phoenixblight

Xbox 360 you had to pay for wifi-adaptor which was far more expensive than a standard wifi adaptor and have to pay for a recharge kit or just buy batteries endlessly. When PS2 had a network adaptor and a hard drive it was absolutely pointless unless you were going to play a select few of games that needed it like FFXI.

    #40 2 years ago
  41. Da Man

Just because you’re mad doesn’t mean it’s plausible to compare complete lack of online to some optional functionality. I use wired internet. Now let’s discuss the pros and cons of isps, wired vs wireless and ethernet cables, yeap typical straw man / bs tactics.

So what if you had no internet? Many of what is being widespread in America couldn’t possibly be afforded in other countries.

    Moot points, more straw men.

Edit – #42 Exactly, so in other words it was a console with basically no proper online gaming. I’m glad we agree.

    #41 2 years ago
  42. Richenbaum

wifi adapter is optional though, it still came with a wired network adapter built in on release. it was a basic feature.

ps2s late internet add-on was not. that’s all there is to it.

    #42 2 years ago
  43. Phoenixblight

    @44

Yes which meant people like me had to stretch 40ft of Ethernet cord across the apartment in order to hook up my 360 online. Which was not cheap and was a pain in the ass to set up.

What, you need a Gold subscription to use Netflix on the 360? That’s … wow.

I finally got an internet connection that enables me to use Netflix and the like (it’s satellite based, so no online gaming though). I was wondering if I should use the PS3 or 360 for Netflix in the living room, finally decided that the 360 made more noise so I’d just use the PS3. Now it turns out I couldn’t have used the 360 even if I wanted to. Absolutely ridiculous.

    #45 2 years ago

@45 so did I. personally it didn’t cost me a cent and it wasn’t difficult at all to set up, but that doesn’t matter either. whether it was easy or hard has nothing to do with it being a basic feature on the system. *shrug*

  49. Phoenixblight

    @50

Yet its competitor both the Wii and Ps3 came with wifi capable. ANd it does matter because I had to pay 30$ for the materials to staple it across my living room, that or pay 100$ for the wifi adaptor.

    #49 2 years ago
  50. G1GAHURTZ

    ^

The 360 was internet capable out of the box. If your particular situation meant that your modem/router was ridiculously far from your TV, then it’s up to you to solve the problem. There are loads of ways to do it.

Besides, WiFi is terrible for online gaming, anyway. I mean, really, really, really bad.

I’m not certain, but I’m pretty sure that unnecessarily long cables wouldn’t help, either.

Anyway, there were numerous ways of hacking the 360 to take a normal WiFi adapter, so it wasn’t always necessary to go official.

    #50 2 years ago
  51. Christopher Jack

Why are people arguing about the PS2? That was before internet gaming became mainstream- which yes, the Xbox consoles influenced, but so what?

I’m having a hard time trying to understand half your points. Sony had an after thought internet adapter for the PS2 so paying for XBL Gold to access basic MP features is justified? What have you people been smoking? That’s hardly a relevant comparison. If you’re going to compare a premium service, compare it with another, not with a product from 10 years ago that was simply a one-off payment gateway to access the net.

@GHZ, How is wifi terrible for online gaming? So long as you have a solid connection you should be able to reach the required bandwidth for gaming with ease. The extra ping is also so small, generally less than 1ms so that too is irrelevant.

Either way, I’m get really annoyed with all this proprietary crap people are trying to shove down our throats. I remember having an Arcade Xbox 360 & the bundled memory card was so restrictive. It ended up being cheaper to buy a PS3 at the time than to buy the proprietary wifi adapter ($149AUD), proprietary 60GB HDD ($149AUD[although I settled for a 20GB preowned for $20AUD]), 1 year XBL Gold ($119AUD). I was also tired of replacing fucking batteries & wanted to talk online so of course I bought some battery packs+charger cables ($29AUD & that was buy one get one free) & a headset($29AUD) & of course even those are proprietary, I mean I could have found some third party accessories but they’re mostly crap unless you pay top dollar. In total I spent nearly $200 in accessories for a $200 console & maybe about $200 more on sporadic periods of XBL Gold.

I’m just speaking from personal experience, and what other people that I play with have also said.

It’s woefully inconsistent, and just doesn’t compare to the reliability that you get over a cable.

    #53 2 years ago
  54. Christopher Jack

@55, Well it’s rare that I ever get ping below 100MS & about 1/4 games I have teleporting enemies & I’m on a $119 internet(+home phone) plan so you’ll forgive me if I find wifi to be the last thing to worry about.

    #54 2 years ago
  55. G1GAHURTZ

Try a wired connection for a few days, and see if it makes any difference.

    @54

Never had any issues with my wifi connection and playing with my friends with L4D2, Borderlands, Deadspace 3, and other multiplayer games through my internet connection on the Ps3 and that is with a 50Mbps internet of course that doesn’t mean problems don’t arise in other’s experience but in my own I have never had an issue.

The fact that MS competitors offered a wifi capable device right out of the box, one of them being a Wii shows that MS was all about nickle and diming their consumers and it was one of the reasons why I sold the system, paying for Xbox live in order to access stuff I already pay for being another.

@57, I used to, no difference what so ever, well slightly but that goes in favour of wireless because the ethernet cables were so long they kept getting damaged. On a good day I get about 800KB/s, rarely has it ever exceeded 1MB/s. The real issue is how old my copper connection is & it’ll be nearly a year & a half before I get fibre.

Oh, for sure, the WiFi adapter was a rip off.

There was no need for it, though. The first time I ever connected a 360 to XBL over WiFi was about 5 years after I’d bought my first one, and I played online for about 2 hours a day on average up until that point.

Maybe I’m coming across a bit like Erthazus talking about graphics here, but just ask any serious online gamer, and 100/100 will tell you Ethernet > WiFi.

When you play to win, milliseconds make a huge difference. Not just with twitch shooters, but also with games where timing is important, like SSFIV.

So basically, for me, WiFi is rubbish for gaming, anyway.

If I had £1m to build the ultimate gaming room, I wouldn’t have a WiFi signal anywhere near it.

  59. Christopher Jack

Of course ethernet> wifi for gaming but the real issue with it is the connection & its reliability, the latency difference is almost non existent to us when set up right & no game around exceeds the bandwidth limits of standard wifi.

    #59 2 years ago
  60. G1GAHURTZ

If Ethernet really is better than WiFi (which it is), then it’s not just a simple case of the connection dictating all quality, because both use the exact same connection.

    #60 2 years ago
  61. Christopher Jack

@62, Wifi has more bandwidth limitations but that should be irrelevant unless you’re downloading all the time. A modern online game I believe uses about 75MB an hour, I believe wireless N is capable of downloading that amount every second, so that leads to regular gigabit ethernet being only about 33% faster. So again, for a general household, the only real concern is the quality of your connection & maybe potential interference- idk how that’s improved but I recall that being an issue in the past when it used different frequencies.

    #61 2 years ago
  62. G1GAHURTZ

Well, there certainly is a noticeable difference there, even though the theory might say otherwise.

It can’t really be the connection quality, since both wired and wireless should give near identical results, so the only obvious explanation is signal interference, which is eliminated when using Ethernet.

ethernet is better than wifi because of the same rules which make you drink your coke with a straw and not just throw it at yourself… hoping all of it will land in your mouth..
