Xbox One: Greenberg reiterates “main focus,” to be on games at E3 2013

Tuesday, 21st May 2013 20:38 GMT By Stephany Nunneley

Microsoft’s Aaron Greenberg has reiterated to expect more on not only Xbox One at E3, but a major focus on the games.

Speaking with OXM, Greenberg said that from a first-party standpoint, MS will continue to invest heavily in gaming, and Don Mattrick confirmed this today during the reveal when he said 15 exclusives will be announced at E3 for the system, eight of which are first-party games.

“We probably right now aren’t talking about [games] maybe as much as we should, because we’re talking so much about what’s new,” Greenberg said. “People know we have gaming, and so we’re talking about entertainment and TV and all of the other things that we’re doing.

“But, when we go to E3 you’ll see us go almost all gaming, and that’ll be our main focus there. We know it’s like us being musicians, and that’s the rock concert – people don’t want to hear slow songs, they just want rock, so we’re giving them rock for 90 minutes.

“And we’ve got a lot of games, and I would say our third party relationships are the tightest we’ve ever seen.”

Xbox One will be released later this year.

All baseless talk at this point Greenberg. You’ll have to prove it to me now after that reveal, as there was nothing interesting from a gamer perspective for me.

You have to wonder what the hell they were thinking when they decided to show no games at this reveal. Sony showed/announced 4 (sure-fire) exclusive games all with in-game footage, any sane competitor would say “Lets match that, or surpass it!”, but not MS, nope.

So now we have this promise of 6 or whatever exclusives for E3. But how much will that mean if Sony have that many to show too or more? If they’re just going to hold off from showing them now its pretty meaningless. It was always a certainty MS couldnt compete with Sonys first party muscle, because Sony have nearly 3 times more studios, but MS dont even seem to be trying.

Seems like MS could be making the same mistakes Sony made this gen at the beginning.
Only difference been at that time there were 90 million ps2,s compared to 24 million xboxes.

    A little bit different really.

I live in Brazil. The whole conference was useless for me. I Won’t be able to do any of that stuff with the TV, NFL and whatever. As #3 Said, Focus on COD and FIFA… also not cool for me. Quantum Break looks great BUT… Not much was shown and they will probably fuck it up with Kinect. E3 will be decisive but for now… Sony won my money for first buy.

So yeah. Talk about an anticlimax. PS4 seems to be the more gamer centric console so I’m sticking with it for my first purchase.

    Bring on E3!

MS isn’t trying to bring you in buddy, they’ve decided “gamers” isn’t as important as the casual market who find kinect etc kool and attractive.

Sony and there PS4 will greet you with open arms because after today, it’s clear they care more about us gamers!

Seriously MS after today are a huge joke. So sad.

You know i think they will bring the games on E3 based on their statement that 15 exclusives games will hit the one in 1 year, and 8 of those games being new IPs, one counting the remedy game, therefore i think i will wait with great anticipation this e3 on the microsoft side of things, really i didnt expected this prior the todays anouncements

To a certain degree, Greenberg is right.

Events like these *aren’t* just for the core (although you could argue that the first reveals of new hardware are primarily watched and discussed by existing audiences rather than new ones who primarily respond to positive word of mouth, but hey…) and it’s true that MS do need to focus on broadening their audience if they’re to turn a sizeable profit next gen.

But MS’ stock just went down and Sony’s just went up. ‘Nuff (as they say) zed.

Is this the same Greenberg who once mocked the PS3 for having an Internet browser and demanded Sony decide if the PS3 was a media centre or a games console?

    Yes, it is!

This. It really says it all.
Sony were so big headed during the PS2 days, PS3 clearly wasn’t a great launch
Xbox One seems to be just that.. Another big headed mistake.

this reveal made me feel ill, they should of went all out and talked games and showed game play demos and wow’d everyone with the graphics but if theyre saving that for e3 then theyre as dumb as id expect. i just… i expected atleast a new interface and for the console to look slick and attractive not square and v/h/s’y :/

Lol. Looks like Sony won the next gen.
Seen that coming a mile away. How? Wii U and Windows 8. Both products only misguided idiot can produce.
Xbox 1 is Windows 8 of game consoles.

Yeah Kinect games. I bet they have no more than 5 actual new titles for hardcore gamers. And they should have shown at least 5 of them off at the event. But noooo, instead lets talk about entertainment, social media, TV, entertainment, sports, TV, enterfeckingtainment. GO FY MS!
