Total War: Rome 2 will have 500 units, 117 factions, and 183 regions

Tuesday, 2nd April 2013 08:11 GMT By Brenna Hillier

The single-player campaign in Total War: Rome 2 will have 117 different factions, among other impressively large numbers.

Series developer The Creative Assembly revealed the figures as part of its GDC 2013 talk, as reported by PC Gamer.

There will be 500 types of unit, a five-fold increase on the original Total War: Rome, and 183 map regions, almost double that of Total War: Shogun 2.

A bit of napkin maths shows that not many of the factions you can choose from will hold more than a single map region, which seems a bit daunting when you consider Rome’s historic expansionism, but with a bit of effort and a lot of brains your chosen tribe could conquer the ancient world.

Rome 2 is expected on PC later this year.

And how many will be playable, how many will be DLC. PCG always get moist over any Total war game, no matter how unfinished it might be.

Doubling Shogun 2, isnt an impressive stat really, considering when compared to Empire TW, just how hollow it was in terms of scale, maps, factions, units etc.

If Rome is looking to copy the epic scale of Empire, then that would be more of a selling point for me.

“and 183 map regions, almost double that of Total War: Shogun 2.”

Shouldn’t that read “over double that of..”? TW:S2 only had 60 something provinces.

Well I’m curious about just how varied those 500 units are..

It may seem a bit daunting, but you have to consider that Rome was ages ahead of a lot of the tribes you’re bound to face, so arguably their fortresses won’t be all that impenetrable.

That was certainly the case in the first one. A picket fence won’t keep the romans at bay.
