Funny, the main point of the IGN review was how different the game felt from others Gears Of War games and how it didn’t feel like “more of the same”. That’s why reviews are interesting, but rarely the reason I do or don’t buy a game.

@14 I feel like both are good scores. I mean, they basically gave God of War an 8 and Gears of War a 9. Plus, that’s the problem with treating a magazine, website or blog as a single entity. Those games were reviewed by two separate people with different view points. I kind of wish more sites would have more than one review from a single staff member, but that’s just kind of the way they do things.

The game mechanics are even better than the third game, but it still lacks quality in the story and this time even in the AI. Play this with your friends or get ready for gears of frustration.

Yea I just read giantbomb’s review (3 out of 5) it’s more of the same and the story is not that great.

@21 very weak. Everything else is fine, if a bit over-familiar. I likened it to a ‘best-of’ collection of ideas and mechanics in my article on the homepage now.

Yea I kind of figured that. Gears of War 3′s story was pretty weak as well. Oh well, I’ll wait a couple of weeks, before getting this one.

Tried 3 times to like the Gears games, but they just flat out don’t appeal to me. I very much doubt this fourth one will change that, even though its supposed to be the most different, it still looks and sounds the same. Probably just going to ignore this entirely, cos i’m way more interested in BioShock Infinite, right now. I’d rather play more games like Dishonored and Fallout: NV at the mo. Guess i’m a bit jaded on the old straight up shooting.

I really don’t like Gears of War.

It ‘s just another cover based shooter, if only SONY® was in charge of producing it now that would be an artistic masterpiece for mature hardcore gamers.

It’s just so slow and violent, God of War or Quantum Theory are easily better.

Lack of maps is the only reason I didn’t give this a 10, but the campaign is amazing. The Smart Spawn, the DeClassify Missions, the new control layout – it’s really, really good to play.

I also like the new MP Modes because it (maybe upsets the hardcore Gears players) but it brings the game in line with Halo and CoD. Free for All, Domination is excellent, but yeah – lack of King of the Hill, Horde anything that signature to Gears has been re-written!

I loved it.
