Cohort Studios reopens in Wales, first game releasing later this year

Cohort Studios has resurfaced in Caerphilly, Wales and its first game will be published later this year.

The Dundee studio closed in April 2011, but after receiving a £25,000 grant from the Welsh Government's Digital Development Fund and Welsh Innovation Centre for Enterprise, it has now been able to release its iOS version of Me Monstar: Hear Me Roar!, while its new free-to-play racing title will be released at the end of Mach or early April.

"The growth in mobile and tablet gaming has caused huge disruption, with new ways to play and interact, and most significantly different models for generating revenue," said CEO and founder Darran Thomas to GI International.

"This is partly why I took the decision to relocate to my home country of Wales, where there is increased awareness and focus on the digital economy, especially in terms of support provided to businesses."

Other ex-members the team formed Beartrap Games in October 2012, and have remained in Scotland.
