Army of Two: The Devil’s Cartel producer wants to create the “best co-op campaign on the market”
Army of Two: The Devil’s Cartel, like previous titles in the series, will be a co-op only affair because there are enough games on the market with a multiplayer already, according to producer Greg Rizzer.
Speaking in an peice to be published later with VG247′s Dave Cook, Rizzer said his team is focuses on making c-op in The Devil’s Cartel “the best” on the market.
“We always kind of felt like we want to focus on delivering the best co-op campaign on the market,” he said. “That’s something we were known for with the first one. It’s back now, and we feel pretty good about that.
“The fact of the matter is that with competitive multiplayer, there’s plenty of games where that’s their focus, and they they do it extremely well. We don’t feel any need to compete with that.”
Rizzer said he feels many games on the market tack on competitive multiplayer, because some higher-up told the developer it was “needed.”
“With me personally – especially these days – when I buy a game and see, ‘Look, we also have competitive multiplayer’, I just think, ‘You did that because someone said that you needed to do that’,” he said.
“Whereas if we execute a very good co-op campaign, give replayability – which we have in difficulty levels – then there is plenty of content. People will say, ‘Hey, I should keep this game on my shelf because my buddy came over, and we can play it on the couch’.”
