Left 4 Dead 2 ‘Expanded Mutation System’ enters beta, offers advanced mod support

Left 4 Dead 2 developer Valve has launched its Expanded Mutation System beta. It’s an improved scripting system that offers more modding possibilities to players.

Valve updated the Left 4 Dead blog with a post that runs down the essentials. The post explains that the EMS is a, “Vvastly improved scripting system that allows script authors to go past modifying existing scripts and write custom script logic, spawn and control entities, and much much more.”

“Mod authors will now be able to create deep custom experiences that can be played on any map or tailor create something for new or existing maps.”

One example of what’s possible using EMS is a new survival mode called Holdout, which ses players putting up barricades and buying weapons, similar to Call of Duty: Black Ops 2′s Zombies mode.

Here’s a gallery of images from the mode and EMS toolkit. Be sure to check out Valve’s post for more information if you’re a keen modder.

Thanks Destructoid.
