Snowman and the Snowdog game passes 1 million downloads

The Snowman and the Snowdog saw many tears shed over the Christmas holidays. One bunch who definitely aren’t crying right now are the developers of the Channel 4 show’s companion app Crash Lab, founded by ex-Free Radical dev Steve Ellis.

The stats were passed to VG247 earlier today, showing that the free game had been downloaded on iOS and Android over a million times since launching December 9th. It dominated the top of the App Store’s free chart over Christmas, and surprisingly, isn’t as upsetting as the animated film was. If you are one of the 11 million people who saw it on Christmas Eve, you know what I mean.

Players have collectively amassed 400 million snowflakes in-game and some players have even clocked 24 hours of game time each.

Colin Macdonald, Commissioning Editor for Games at Channel 4 said: “We wanted a beautiful game to accompany a beautiful film and I’m absolutely delighted so many people have enjoyed the experience of both. I’ve been genuinely moved by many of the 6,000+ reviews players have posted of the game in app stores.”

Steve Ellis, MD of the game’s developer, Crash Lab, added: “We set out to make a game that both kids and adults would enjoy, and we got our first inkling that we may have succeeded when we heard that Raymond Briggs himself had played and enjoyed it. But for the game to go on to hit this milestone in the UK alone is just incredible.”
