Ron Gilbert says he'll contact Disney "at some point" regarding rights to Monkey Island franchise

Ron Gilbert has said he will contact Disney "at some point" regarding regaining rights to the Monkey Island franchise.

Speaking with Eurogamer, Gilbert said he would "love to get the rights back," but he hasn't done anything about it just yet.

"I would love to contact them at some point," he said. "I haven't done anything yet but I definitely want to. At some point I will. I would love to get the rights back and be able to really make the game I want to make."

The rights to the franchise were handed over to Disney in October when the firm purchased Lucasfilm and LucasArts for a reported $4.05 billion.

Should Gilbert get the rights back, he said its likely the next game would be made at Double Fine, where Gilbert says he plans on staying for the foreseeable future.

"As long as Tim doesn't fire me," he said.
