Monday, 10th December 2012 10:17 GMT By Dave Cook

Wii U launched in Japan on Sunday to long queues and much excitement. Nintendo has released a batch of official launch day photos from the company’s flagship launch site. Check them out below.

Thanks ONM and Famitsu.

Will be interesting to see the numbers. With Yakuza 5 launching too, it will be a good fight for the top spot.

Awesome pictures from Japan. Now Nintendo can finally focus on the games and not on launches. I’m super excited for Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate. Lucky Japanese gamers get to experience that on launch day.

Monster hunter as a launch pack in?

That’s surely going to shift a few consoles!

    That comparison doesn’t make sense?

How is buying one game for a hugely established console the same as buying a £300 console?

Did anyone compare buying the PS3 to a DS game that was coming out?

Read carefully and understand. If you think, you will understand I was referring to top game spot of this week.

Then what has it got to do with an article on a console launch?

See the numbers for what? The console? Wii U launch games?

Or are you going to stealth edit again?

    Are you really that small-minded?
I am looking out to see which game tops the media create charts. Is it that difficult to understand.

When you start a sentence off with:

“Will be interesting to see the numbers”, in an article about a console launch, I think it’s fair to say you we’re alluding to that.

And wiiu launch numbers too. Console gaming isn’t hot in japan. And most people here are blissfully unaware that MH is not a big home console seller. Its not a million seller on consoles. See ps3 and ps2 mh sales.
Thats why it will be interesting to see the numbers, specially in game sales.
Also most games do 50% of their business in the first week, valid for both console and handheld releases.
How does ds, ps3 comparison come here? A new console is expected to dominate charts in at least 1st week.

Its also out on the 3DS aswell with link up feature. It’s not the biggest seller, but cock blocking Sony from having the franchise for Vita is sure to help shift some consoles.

Ninty sure paid a shit load of moolah for this exclusivity. I am interested about march, with capcom and nintys mh vs sony and inafunes ss. Sales are obviously decided beforehand, with 3ds having a bigger user base. But sony does have some strong marketing muscle in japan, so the results will be interesting.
I highly doubt that mh will come to vita unless capcom begs sony to do so.

Looking at those pictures, it makes wonder if the wii points cards will work with the WiiU too?

Didn’t God Eater already try and de-throne Monster Hunter in Japan to limited success?

SS is going to have to have a huge push, doesn’t it go up directly against MH4?

Frankly, both God Eater and MH suck, with GE being a mh that is just not named mh.
Sony, in the most bull-headed move, announced ss release date before mh release date is fixed, which right now is a vague march 2013. Although I am not complaining, as it makes for a good fight and some great numbers. I am sure inafune will give his all for giving one back to capcom. Plus it looks awesome, compared to GE2 and MH4. Just waiting for demo on 20th Dec 2012.
One thing is for sure, if ss even manages 30% of mh sales, it would be established as vitas mh.
