Famed game designer Julian Gollop has announced that he is working on a sequel to his 1985 ZX Spectrum title, Chaos: The Battle of Wizards.
The seemingly out-of-nowhere news came via Gollop’s Twitter account, where he wrote: “OK it’s official! I am working on a sequel/remake to my classic ZX Spectrum game ‘Chaos’ – for iOS, PC, Mac – maybe more.” Additional platforms could include Android, Linux, and Ouya.
Gollop says that the sequel will “be in 3D for sure” and that it’ll use the Unity3D engine. Anyone who played the original Chaos will be happy that he’s planning “to keep combat/movement very close to the original, with some tweaks” too.
Other than that, we can’t say much else for now. That makes sense, though, considering Gollop only started working on the game last week.
Gollop, along with his brother Nick, are perhaps best known for creating the original X-COM: UFO Defense, which of course received a spiritual successor earlier this year in XCOM: Enemy Unknown (although Gollop wasn’t involved in that one).
Chaos, meanwhile, was another turn-based strategy game that, not surprisingly, featured wizard battles instead of alien ones. A sequel, Lords of Chaos, was made five years later.
