OTT: VG247 breaks 1.1 million monthly unique users

We did it. And so did you. VG247 has moved past the million monthly user mark, recording more than 1.1 million unique visitors and 3 million page views in September.

VG247, Britain’s first and only 24-hour games news site, passed a major traffic milestone in September by recording 1,105,782 unique visitors.

The page view count for the month was 3,078,455. The metrics are internal, taken from Google Analytics.

Said editor Patrick Garratt: “When we launched in 2008, 1 million monthly unique users was our target. Achieving our primary goal has been the result of hard work from an incredible team, the members of which have nothing but my utmost respect and thanks.

“But we’d be nothing without our readers, and I can’t express my gratitude to our audience enough. If the crowd engaging with us on a daily basis were any more ‘core,’ I think we’d have a lava issue.”

VG247 launched in February 2008, and provides round-the-clock games news reporting from editors in the UK, America, Australia and France.

I do not post very often, but I follow your news every day, imho the best place to get’em in the whole Internet. I also get a lot of fun from the community (even though I don’t see Erth posting as much as before, a shame because the PC/console flame wars are really funny).

Definitely kudos to you all guys.

You know… I don’t want to dampen your enthusiasm too much but… unless Google Analytics uses tracking cookies (which I don’t think it does), you probably have more like 100K unique users thanks to dynamic IPs.

And IF you had 1.1M unique users and 3M page views… 3 page views per user? No. The average for the regular user is much higher. Which would mean that you have hundreds of thousands of people who look at your site and never come back.

Maybe it means more to you to attract 1M people, no matter whether they actually USE your site but I would prefer 10K who actually care what I publish. Of course… I suppose that would not help you with ads. Oh well…
