Beneath a Steel Sky 2 is happening, PC, Mac & smartphone release confirmed

Monday, 24th September 2012 15:13 GMT By Dave Cook

Broken Sword: The Serpent’s Curse developer Revolution included a full sequel to its futuristic adventure game Beneath a Steel Sky in its Kickstarer stretch goals. Despite falling short of the $1 million needed, the studio is going ahead with the game anyway. Good times for fans of the original indeed.

Develop reports that Revolution co-founder Tony Warriner confirmed that the success of its Broken Sword Kickstarter convinced the team to make the game anyway.

“We’re delighted by the recent level of interest in a sequel to Beneath a Steel Sky,” Warriner said, “and are currently discussing design ideas for this project which we plan to go into development following the release of Broken Sword – The Serpent’s Curse. We’re deeply touched that our Steel Sky fans are as enthusiastic today as they were when the original game released in 1994.”

Beneath a Steel Sky 2 will be heading to iOS, Android, PC, Linux and OSX. Develop adds that Revolution is looking into console releases.

“He`s talking bullshit Foster” is still one of the funniest lines ever in a video game – this is such good news, more so with the fact they didn`t hit the mark but still respect the fans.

I have no real interest in Broken Sword. It was okay, but not Revolution’s revolution. Beneath a Steel Sky, however, had a really odd world. A dystopia to be sure, but one that I hadn’t seen handled that way in games before or since. And the ending was simply perfect.

I’m intrigued, to be honest. I’m not sure how they could continue it after that ending. But if they can do this well, then I’m 100% behind this. More of the kind of writing that Beneath a Steel Sky had is what I want. I just hope they don’t do ‘more of the same,’ and actually evolve the world after how the first game ended.

If you haven’t played the first game – do yourself a favour. It’s available for free on GoG. Go get it, play it, and you’ll enjoy it. You won’t regret it.

@TheWulf The only scenario I foresee is having LINC returning to a “state of chaos” with Joey having “inside information” on Robert and eventually turning on him…
