So ultimately the system is worth 200? Take the 30 bucks of content off and 40 for GoTY Uncharted and the system itself is worth 200?

@Lex, don’t you think it would be better if Sony just put the lowest possible price on the core system as posible?

One of the things that puts some of my friends of about this gen is the price of the sytems. Sony and MS like to put “extra” things in the box. Their strategy is to make the consumer feel like they are recieving more value for their money. The problem is that if you can’t afford 300usd+ for a system, it doesn’t matter what is included in the retail box.

Would be smarter to just lower the price and let the consumer decide what extras they want to buy and when they want to buy them. Take a look at the new SSPS3, people were expecting it to be much cheaper.

Hell I remember reading on this site, analysts expected it to be priced at 100usd.

Of course the reason platform holders don’t just lower the price is because it costs them next to nothing to pack in first party games or codes for digital downloads. That allows them to inflate the price because the “precieved value” doesn’t cost them anything. In your example, it costs Sony a lot less then 70bucks to “Take the 30 bucks of content off and 40 for GoTY Uncharted”. Thus maybe that content actualy costs them 20bucks, that bags them 50ucks pure profit.

The problem, again, is that instead of a cheap, impulse purchase priced, system that would atualy move off of shelves.

Wht I wonder is how much the strong yen has effected the final price. I know that several industry insiders have said the WiiU was intended to be at least 50usd cheaper then it is, and that the Yen was the reason it is priced what it is.

Well if they really wanted to cut into the wii u sales they would’ve drop the price to at least one of their models to $199. I don’t know why the hell Sony announced this shit for, if it’s more expensive than it’s older models.

@OG they’re just trying to make money. They’ll drop early next year I’ll bet.

    I agree SlayerGT.

Sony really dropped the ball this holiday season by not going to $199 with one of these. They could have just destroyed the Wii U’s sales with a good price cut. No one in their right mind would pay $300 to get most of the same games they can already get when the competition is $100 cheaper. $40 is not that big of a price difference.

You guys do realize that these are bundles right? Not solo consoles that are just HDD’s and Controller. Besides I’m a Technology Major I learned really fast stripping a system to bare bones for cheaper price does work for the general consumer but they tend to have NO IDEA how to upgrade it.

Instead of the current owners bragging about how bad it is. They should think how good it is for an entry level to have all those features Large HDD, Video Game, Online Content, Controller and a new model Console. It’s overall a good bargain

If in the future you need to replace an older unit for an upgrade I’m sure they’ll have the system without the bundle to pick from in the future.

We know Lex, but I don’t think these bundles will do what they were intended to do. In terms of moving units and expanding the install base. I understand your point, and the concept. But:

Wii costs 150usd with two pack in games.

And WiiU will cost 350usd with a pack in and extras(including an HDMI cable).

SSPS3 costs 270usd and 300usd(both with pack ins).

While a cheaper hrdware redesign will increase profit margins per system sold for Sony. It will not reach a price point that will encourage more people to buy one. Esp, when there are still cheaper competitors on the shelf.

I am sure Sony will cut the PS3 price after the holiday season. But so will MS. And Nintendo will likly do the same as well.

High price has doged and hamstrung Sony this entire gen. Why am I going after this point? Because it is what I mean when I say Sony puts too much tech in their systems. And as a result they are unable to price their products at an acceptible mass market price point. I believe that is what is killing VITA. It hurt PS3, and I wonder what Sony will do for PS4?

I honestly don’t think anything is killing Vita besides Skepticism and a lack of public intrigue into newer IPs. People really just want what they are familier with at this point.

Also, I think Sony’s Advertising department need to be dragged to a back yard and put down like a rabbid dog. Because in the end the average consumer doesn’t really care about price. They care about Hype, if a group of people will drop 300 on a pair of shoes or pants dropping on a console isn’t going to bother them.

With holiday season approaching if people looked at it from this point of view. I can buy this New model ps3 with a game as well as a cheaper version of the Wii U games i.e Arkham City,Ninja Gaiden etc. They might be more swoon to that then just Wii U for 350. That is only assuming were comparing towards PS3/360 to Wii U.

Well in my experience bundles from any manufacturer, not only sony, do not arrive to some countries, here in venezuela and other south american countries for example, therefore i think it will be the same for some other regions, so they dont have the impact they should have, because they are not globally focus, thats why i also keep pointing out the memory cards cost for the total of the vita price, because here i will have to buy the handheld + the memory card, because such bundles do not arrive here.

    @OG
Your double standards are baffling.Ps3 is overpriced for a 8 year old tech, whereas wiiu is fine for charging 100$ more for same old tech.
You know, saying vita is overpriced and then saying wiiu is ok is pure fanboyism. At least vita had 25 games at launch. WiiU has a grand total of 22 titles confirmed for launch, most of which are ports like vita launch, and this is the best ninty launch ever. Vita had 7 exclusives at launch, wiiu has 3-4. Yet vita is expensive for iphone 5 tech and wiiu is ok for 8 year old tech.
Also dont get me talking about extras (like hdmi cable). A console (3ds)that does not have a power charger is big a ripoff as you can see. But of course you wont point out that.
Also some moron was saying ninty gets the most flak, so UNtrue. Sony does.
Just open that 350+ comments article and add up all comments that were made by you and other “ndf” members. Turns out 2/3 rd of them. The vigor with which you and some others defend ninty is truly amazing, like ninty paid you.
    Double standards is double standards.

    Dragon man, look.

PS3 is at the end of its lifecycle. WiiU, like it or not, is indeed brand new hardware. It isn’t “old tech”. It is a new generation of Nintendo hardware.

As such the two systems are at different points and they have different expectations. They did not launch side by side. They do not have the same internal workings.

As the platform holder with the thrid place system, at the end of its lifecycle, most people expect Sony to be able to sell the system for less money then it is. Unortunatly, for Sony, I believe they overachieved on hardware and that coupled with a strong yen(worth far more now then when this gen started) the gradual and expected decline in end of lifecycle price can not happen.

WiiU is a new hardware launch. Period. The strong yen has also hurt the WiiU. It was possed to be at leat 50usd cheaper then it is. But when you factor in the controler, the game, and the new hardware launch, all things considered the price point for WiiU is seen as reasonable. Not just by me, btw. Butby a lot of folks.

It in’t a double standard. Each system is surounded by different and unique set of circumstances.

Just for clearity, the 3DS comes with a AC Adapter. It does NOT included a “Charge Craddle”. You can use one from older systems. Not including one is a bad idea imo. Just like not including a HD cable/HDMI cable on a HD system is also a bad idea.

Als there is only one reason that we all joke about NDF, and that is because Nintendo does indeed get so much crap there way. You have to ask yourself, if no one attacking it, would there be a need to defend it? And it isn’t the normal fanboy shtick. It centers around ignorance mostly and the notion that Nintendo games are either casual or childerns games. So yeah, people will try and set that straight.

I guess that prolly sounds like fanboy stuff and maybe it is. I am a Nintendo fan after all ;)
