Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate 3DS won’t have online play, Capcom confirms

Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate is heading to both Wii U and Nintendo 3DS, but Capcom has confirmed that the handheld edition will not support online play. We reported on Capcom’s online plans for the Wii U build this morning in case you missed it.

Speaking with Official Nintendo Magazine, Capcom’s Yuri Araujo stated that the developer “has no plans” to take the 3DS version online.

Meanwhile, we reported that the Wii U version of Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate will use official Nintendo Network servers.

Over at Capcom Unity, senior vice president Christian Svensson said, “For Wii U we’re using Nintendo’s servers (which I’m very happy about) and I’m not sure how they’re set up. Candidly, we’re still waiting for Wii U builds in our office to play with and there’s still many moving parts that no one except for the team members has first hand experience with at this point.”

Is there some technical issue that would prevent players of the 3DS version to play on the same servers as the Wii U version? I don’t quite understand this when the Wii U and 3DS versions can play together locally. I hope they at least allow online for North America and maybe Europe, because unlike in Japan, it is not all that easy to just walk down the street and play games with a bunch of Otaku/gamers.

Again makes me scratch my head. Should have put it on Vita then. FFS no online… And they wonder why MH doesn’t sell in the West.

Wonder if it will have a X buy program like Vita ps3 than. That would justify not having online
