F1 2012 won’t have a Grand Prix mode

Monday, 10th September 2012 23:40 GMT By Debabrata Nath

Codemasters has confirmed that F1 2012 will no longer feature the Grand Prix mode which allowed players to create and compete in a full season as an official F1 driver.

Speaking to Videogamer, a Codemasters representative said that players will still be able to compete in a full F1 season through the game’s career mode with their own created characters.

“In previous games you could create your own F1 season in the Grand Prix mode so you could, if you so wished, recreate a season and play as an official F1 driver. The Grand Prix option has been replaced with Quick Race this year so you can jump into a one off race much easier, but you cannot create a series of races.

“The championship is now solely part of the career (up to five years) where you create your own driver and move between teams – the teams available to you at the start of your career are dictated by the difficulty level.”

This is the first Codies developed F1 title which doesn’t include the Grand Prix mode.

F1 2012 also introduces the Young Driver Test mode, which’ll teach new players how to drive a Formula 1 car, and the Season Challenge mode, which’ll offer a series of challenges for players to compete in. It launches on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC on September 21.

…why just pick on Cod’ies – all publishers past second round financing seem to enter the crap zone concerning console development – you have to sell the very thing that makes games great when signing to support the console giants…. your soul!

That’s actually very annoying. I was planning on using the grand prix mode this time around, because I wanted to just race a season or two in a decent team instead of having to start with Williams and maybe get promoted to Force India next season in the carreer mode. In F1 2011 that was way too long winded, moving up the ladder took too much time.
