PS Vita owners reporting problems with PSone Classic transfers

Thursday, 30th August 2012 12:02 GMT By Dave Cook

PS Vita firmware update 1.8 makes it possible to play PSone classics on Sony’s handheld, but many gamers have spoken out regarding an issue with the content. It seems as if PSone games can’t simply be downloaded to your PS Vita and played directly. There is a solution however.

Eagle-eyed Eurogamer readers have been requesting that the site shed light on the issue, so it kindly has.

Reportedly, the only way to get PSone Classics to run on PS Vita is to buy them on your PS3 first, then transfer them to your handheld. If you try and buy direct from your Vita, you will get an error message that says the content cannot be played on the console.

Thanks Eurogamer, and if any VG47 readers have also encountered this issue, please let us know.

Lovely for those who don’t own a PS3. Classic Sony.

Well this isn’t true. Using nothing but my Vita, I downloaded Crash Bandicoot 3 last night and played it several times, it worked fine. I downloaded it about 30 mins after the store was updated, so perhaps an issue has arisen since then.

Russian PSN store haven’t been updated. At least when I checked yesterday’s night. Though I had to redownload FFVII and IX from PS Store on my PS3 so for it to be in duplicated bubbled form. Only then it transferred to Vita.

PS. Totally irrelevant but: I have Xbox 360 for almost 4 years now and PS3 for 10 months. OMFG how PSN is million years behind Xbox Live. I downloaded Dust 514 Closed Beta (1,9 GB in 4 hours on 20Mbps internet – okay.jpg) and then tried to update it like for 3 times (2,2 GB update, 320 Minutes – OOOOOOKAY.jpg) with eventual errors and new attempts to download it :(
I’ve seen only two games with comparable update times on Xbox Live: BFBC2 and BF3 – multiplayer updates were like 1-2 GBs and were downloading for like 20-40 minutes (THAT’S MUCH on Xbox Live) and installed in the same second as download completes (like EVERY update / game download on Xbox Live).

PPS. Relevant: PS Store with all its restrictions, limitations, delays, maintenances and outages disappoints me every month more and more (I’m PS+ user and get all these free games but nevertheless)…

I didn’t have any problems downloading and playing MediEvil yesterday after the store updated. Maybe those who had problems tried downloading after the patch went live, before the store update?
