DmC: Devil May Cry co-op debunked by Ninja Theory

Thursday, 23rd August 2012 12:19 GMT By Dave Cook

DmC: Devil May Cry won’t be getting co-op, Ninja Theory co-founder Tameem Antoniades has stated, following quotes from Capcom US producer Alex Jones that suggested it could be a consideration for future games in the series.

Speaking with IGN, Jones said, “I’m not even going to tease you. We’re not doing co-op for reasons that are purely narrative; like we wanted to tell the story of Dante and to have to account for another person on that journey would have an impact on the narrative.”

Jones added, “DmC is the sort of game where you want to hoard all the enemies to yourself in order to get your ranking up,” Jones continued, “so if you’re having to fight with the person that you’re theoretically co-operating with it would just create a skewed set of priorities.”

“At some point in the future, if we can figure out a way to solve that then maybe; but for this one you’re going it alone as Dante”, Jones concluded.

UPDATE: Ninja Theory co-founder Tameem Antoniades has debunked the possibility of co-op in DmC via Twitter. Antoniades said, “We did no such thing! Co-op has never been planned past, present or future. Sorry!”

VG247 also interviewed Jones at gamescom last week, where he discussed the potential for DmC sequels.

Expect our full DmC interview tomorrow.

thank god…. 2 many games adding pointless multiplier to their games ruining the single player experience. Especially in a hack’n'slash game. If it would be Co-op or single in blood palace in for of survival than yes why not, that sounds like a good Idea, The SP experience was build with the SP experience in mind and an additional co-op for this one mode only was added .

Hell yes. While I enjoy co-op in games like Left 4 Dead and MW2, I despise the very notion of forced / unneeded co-op in titles like Dead Space 3. Yes, I know that most of the time co-op is option but its very presence means that either some time that could have gone to make singleplayer better has been wasted on co-op or the whole thing forces an AI partner upon singleplayer gamers which again ruins the thing unless the game is single player only and the AI partner was DESIGNED to be always controlled by AI.
