Street Fighter X Tekken PS Vita producer: ‘fighting genre is hot right now’

Friday, 3rd August 2012 11:38 GMT By Dave Cook

Street Fighter X Tekken is making its way to PS Vita, courtesy of developer Capcom. Producer Tomoaki Ayano has explained why he feels fighting games are in such high demand these days.

In an interview, Ayano expressed excitement for the genre, “In the fighting game genre there are a lot of different companies coming out with new games every month. If we flip it and look at it, it means this is a hot genre.”

“It’s a genre developers want to get into because there are a lot of users out there that are buying the games”, Ayano continued, “There is definitely a lot more competition nowadays, but Capcom has always had faith in its brands like Street Fighter.”

“We’re always going to make the best fighting game out there no matter what the age is or when we release games. This year is the 25th anniversary of Street Fighter and we’re looking at new ways to go towards the next 25 years to give users the best possible experience.”

Street Fighter X Tekken launches on PS Vita in Europe October 19

Hot ? Capcom has been putting out its fire with their endless useless updated versions. Glad NRS is doing an adventure after Injustice.

It’s a bit rich saying ‘best fighting game’ in reference to a fighter plagued with problems from bugs to horrible imbalances and terrible net code.

Capcom fighters are solid enough and nice enough – and are reasonably entertaining – but until they bring something new to the table (and I don’t mean gems!) it’s hard to see them as the best. They peaked at Third Strike.

There are so many great fighters out there that people still aren’t bothering with that much. Skullgirls was really nicely done, Virtua Fighter 5: FS is just sublime – likewise with BlazBlue. Hell, why not add Arcana Heart 3 to that list.

Also: Yes. More Killer Instinct please. Would we trust Rare to make it now though? It’ll probably end up with Kinect support.

    And nobody wants that.
