Microsoft Surface release date confirmed
Microsoft Surface has been given a solid release date, as confirmed in the company’s annual report. Check out all the launch details here.
VentureBeat reports that Microsoft Surface will launch worldwide October 26 2012, the same day as the Windows 8 operating system.
Microsoft’s report is available here, and reads, “The next version of our operating system, Windows 8, will be generally available on October 26, 2012. At that time, we will begin selling the Surface, a series of Microsoft-designed and manufactured hardware devices.”
However, the release date only relates to the cheaper Microsoft Surface model, which houses an ARM processor, rather than the pricier Intel model.
No price has been confirmed yet, but we’ll keep our eyes on Microsoft for details as they come.

Microsoft Zuneface? The time, it will tell.
I wouldn’t be using a tablet for work, so I don’t really see the appeal. I think it’s going to be interesting to see just how convenient that keyboard turns out to be.
Can you use it on a plane? Can you just flick it out during lunch without looking like a loon?
I think Windows 8 looks like a strong interface, so I think it’s going to fare better than the Zune did just for that reason. Using a Zune was an exercise in having your soul ripped out, and everything you know to be good design violated.

Just to back up what DSB said, i’ll definately be getting a Surface Pro when it launches was it 90 days after the “normal” surface? I can definately see the appeal since the pro version has the full version of windows 8 on it, and as DSB said there is a keyboard with it, so it’ll be really easy to just fire up when on a train and start programming, and when done just pack it away
This is the first tablet ever i’ve actually been interested in!

I was under the assumption that this was something brand new. But then i was told there’s something called Ultrabook and is very similar and also runs Windows. So what exactly makes the Surface so special?

Ultrabook is a notebook. Surface is a tablet.
Kinda like asking what is the difference between a macbook and an ipad

@3 Ultrabooks are sleek, powerful laptops whereas the Surface is a touchscreen tablet.

I really like the looks of it and would be willing to part with my hard-earned for the Pro model, as long as it is sensibly priced.
