Rumour: Castlevania: LoS 2 coming to Wii U, Vita

Tuesday, 22nd May 2012 11:01 GMT By Johnny Cullen

Konami is set to announce Wii U and Vita versions of Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 at E3, according to PGN (via EG).

According to PGN, Lords of Shadow 2, which’ll also come to PS3 and Xbox 360, will interact with 3DS spin-off Mirror of Fate. The 3DS game will apparently use 3DS’s forward-facing camera as a mirror, while the outward camera will help solve puzzles.

Mirror of Fate was also apparently in development for Wii U, but was tossed out for Lords of Shadow 2 instead. The Wii U version of MoF would have been similar to the 3DS SKU.

Both games are in development at MercurySteam, which launched the original Lords of Shadow in 2010 in collaboration with Kojima Productions.

This is awesome news. Not just because the first game was awesome (if perhaps a tad too long), but because they’re developing a AAA console game in tandem with the portable version.

With this and the news that the new Sly Cooper is VITA bound as well, I’m hoping that we’ll see this become something of a trend at E3.

The VITA really needs the software now to justify it’s existence and if Sony can leverage that dual platform strategy they will totally and utterly win E3 IMHO…

Oh fuck that, does that mean they’ll never realease a proper CV game now?

Yes but it was about as “castlevania” as the latest “Syndicate” is “Syndicate”. Yay for cash cows. Milk milk.

LoS was a good refreshment for the Castlevania series, but no idea if its the right move to go now, one game done differently was enough, but hey you never know, may be something that the series needed.

    @4 – not bothered personally =/

LoS was a good game at least, Syndicate was not.

@5 I disagree, we have a gazillion action hero adventure games already. They could have used any character for this game, they could have started a new IP since the game was decent quality. But no. Destroy the Castelvania name instead. Strip away everything it stands for. It’s one of the bigger cases of “greed driven decision making” I’ve seen in a while, and it’s also the saddest because nobody seems to notice.

Also the first one wasn’t that great. I got immensely bored in the swamp level. It was actually *painful*.

There is a long history of CV games and they should not just forget their roots.

The transition to 3D did not mean they had to turn it into generic action game drivel. If metroid could still feel like metroid when it went 3D, why couldn’t castlevania? Like I said, has to be cash related. Too scared it wouldn’t appeal to the masses if it was some exploration game with an automap.

@6 So be it, but your money speaks volumes to the industry. More generic action games like this please! Less of the unique and different ones! ta!

    “Destroy the Castelvania name instead.”

You mean like Castlevania’s on the N64? Or SotN in comparison to what came before?

Or the 4 identikit DS games with the same sprites as Super Castlevania?

Oh and theres a couple of Castlevania Devil May Cry alike games on the PS2 aswell, nearly forgot those.

    You mean like that?

@7: Did you even play one Castlevania game before SOTN came out? Because reading your post I don’t think that you did …

LoS was decent but if was NOT a CastleVania game. Of course it’s rather obvious and a fact since it was announced at GamesCom as a standalone game and then Konami turned it into a CV game.

God I miss classic CV games like SNES and Mega Drive ones (Not a bit of of SOTN, superb game but not the CV I like).

@1 My friend in this day and age there is no such thing as a too long game.

LoS is one of the best action adv of this gen.

Did you quit after that? That’s like 1% into the game or something. It hasn’t even started picking up speed there. It is a beautiful game with a great story and an amazing ending. Can’t wait for the next.

LoS was brilliant, and I don’t see why anybody gives nine shits what words are written on the box cover.

^ You answered your own question: He got one so that he can hate it. The ‘permit to hate’ trick is one of the oldest in the book.
