Fable Heroes turns up on Xbox Live Marketplace

Microsoft has accidentally outed Fable Heroes, a new direction for Lionhead’s fantasy universe, confirming weekend rumours.

A listing on the Xbox Live Marketplace shows a cartoony brawler.

A minecart ride mini-game is shown, along with a board game set up of some kind. Several Fable series hallmarks are also visible – some familiar Fable II faces, Fable III’s power-up chests, and even what may well be handholding.

Lionhead is listed as the developer, and the game features up to four player co-operative multiplayer both online and offline. We’ve grabbed the screens directly from the listing, and the official blurb is below:

“Fable Heroes is a fresh spin on the beloved Fable franchise in which up to 4 players play both cooperatively and competitively in this hack-and-slash adventure. Work together as heroes of Albion to defeat familiar foes and new enemies while collecting as many gold coins as possible to unlock upgrades, characters, and items in both this game and Fable: The Journey for Kinect for Xbox 360.”

Microsoft held a GDC event over the weekend, and more details are expected once a press embargo lifts.

@1 It’s really impressive that every 360-exclusive game can be related to a PS3 game by some people. I mean, how can these screenshots and descriptions make one thinks of LBP???

Like @2, the first game came into my mind is Castle Crashers. 4p coop, hack-n-slash focused, etc.

I get the “hero doll” angle from the main games, but the dolls themselves really lack personality. I like the idea of a Fable XBLA beat-em’-up, but the visual design needs some work.

#1 I don’t see any sign of play-create-share on those screens.

From the screens and text this looks very uninspired. Fable meets SSBB meets Mario Party meets 4 Swords. Minus the headline characters that populate those games.

I’d really like to see Microsoft step away from their modest cluster of IP and do something that talks to gamers rather than ticks a box on a demographic spreadsheet. Take some risks.

Indeed! The Fable series has tons of charm and this looks like a fun take on the series.

I guess some people are more concerned with statistics and some wanky ideal about what publishers should and shouldnt be doing with IP’s, than actually enjoying games.

More fool them.

Oh look. It’s the king of objectivity and impartiality again! Watch him lash out when you don’t subscribe to his one-company-sponsored view of things.

That’s objectivity!

Oh look its an idiot forum troll coming into a games conversation with nothing to say about games. Truly pathetic.

Fans are nice and all, but find someone else to obsess about. Or, you know, talk about games instead of being a creepy stalker. That would be better for everyone.

Need to see this in action, but it looks like a nice little departure from the usual Fable. I’m gonna assume you will be able to customize your dolls… Wasted opportunity otherwise.
