IndieGames is reporting that Jonathan Blow’s latest, The Witness, contains 440 puzzles, and according to the man himself, a playtest of two game areas took nine and a half hours to play through.

Considering he has been “aiming for a 10-15 hour game experience,” the game will be “much longer.”

Blow has said previously that his game will be only made available on PC and iOS due to consoles being “over five years old.”

The exploration-puzzle game, is to be released sometime in 2012.

Sounds good, I badly need my myst/riven/uru fix and this may just fill that void.

I’m definitely looking forward to this.

I find Blow’s attitude toward consoles a bit odd, though. I mean… playing up to the PC Master Race, Blow? Down that path lies madness. Due to the dedicated processing of consoles, even being five years old, in most cases they can still keep up with most computers.

You’d need a really high-end gaming rig capable of all the DX11 bells and whistles at 60FPS for that to not be the case. And I can’t imagine Blow’s game being that demanding. It certainly wouldn’t run on iOS devices if it were.
