Microsoft staffing two new Kinect-focused studios

Monday, 23rd January 2012 20:27 GMT By Debabrata Nath

A set of recruitment ads suggests Microsoft’s planning to set up two new Kinect-focused development studios.

Spotted by a NeoGaf user, Microsoft’s careers page mentions an opening at something called LEAP, which is looking for developers who can boast “experience with Kinect or other motion control technologies”.

The listing also mentions that LEAP was responsible for developing Kinect and now wants to experiment with motion tech again.

“We’re the people that developed Kinect and profoundly changed the way people interact with technology. Now our incubation team is ready to change the world again, but we need your help!”

A second ad on the same site mentions something called Platform Next Studios, which is responsible for “pioneering experiences on Kinect”. The job posting is looking for an HR manager for the studio.

Both studios are based in Microsoft’s Redmond HQ, outside Seattle. However, there’s no mention as to what both these studios are working on.

Previous rumors hinted at Kinect 2 already being in development, and being so powerful that it’ll be able to read your lip movements and detect emotions.

Thanks, Eurogamer.

Impressive pIece of technology. One of the best technologies MS offered in decades

No way it’s going to read lips, probably palm/fingers, dedicated processor and better recognition

“ready to change the world again” – no you didn’t, Nintendo maybe “changed the world” and you just followed doing things correctly.

    Not for me though

Nintendo went through this casual madness and now they are crawling back to core gamers, practically begging for HD ports on the Wii U and having a more traditional controller this time.

Microsoft will be forced to do the same thing. The Kinect craze is over, it’s games are shovelware and are not selling well. I cant believe how this company has abandoned the audience that brought them where they are today. They deserve to be punished and they will be. Casuals dont buy games, we do. They will have to learn it the hard way, like Nintendo.

Nobody gives a rat’s ass about kinect, apps, tv and all that shit that microsoft tries to shove down our throats. It’s all about the games you stupid cunts.

I hope that MS doesn’t screw up their next console by focusing too heavily on Kinect 2. I want a really powerful console with 4GB of memory, not a 2GB Xbox loop that comes with Kinect2.

As if ruining Rare wasn’t enough for them… Remember the days when Rare used to make actual games instead of Avatars and Kinect crap?

The idea is good, but Microsoft just can’t get the handle on the execution. They really need that one game to show that all gamers need to buy Kinect.

I agree with you, but don’t forget that the amount of Kinect sales is fucking insane. They spoke about that during their conference at CES, i was shocked by how many actually have been sold. And just like you, i’d like to believe people are not interested in it. I’d honestly would love if the Kinect had just flopped, cause no doubt that would have meant more exclusives for the 360. Or maybe a new Xbox would have already been revealed by now.

I really don’t know what the future is gonna look like for the next Xbox. All i know is i really dislike this whole bullshit with Kinect, it’s getting ridiculous.

Obviously their making money with kinnect. So it’s understandable their gonna focus on that and let 3rd parties handle the bulk of the core gaming. As long as they still create Halo & Forza, what do *core* gamers have to moan about?

Maybe see another brand new exclusive IP? More exclusives showing the true power of the 360 even more, next to Gears and Forza maybe? That certainly wouldn’t be a bad thing.

Well to tell you the truth i like this, i did like the gunstringer game, it is a game that any serious gamer can enjoy, plays great and it is fun, i hope all the next kinect games are as good as this one, or can improve upon it, like the new panzer dragon game, rysen etc., in my eyes the gunstringer prove that kinect can deliver great games for any serious gamer, now if rare can make a new viva piñata game on kinect, that and the new killer instinct game in order to please us all.
