Serious Sam pub: Piracy best battled by being “worth paying for”

Tuesday, 29th November 2011 01:29 GMT By Brenna Hillier

Devolver Digital isn’t worried about piracy of Serious Sam 3: BFE, currently selling strongly on Steam, because people buy good games.

“Piracy is a problem and there is no denying that but the success of games like Skyrim and our own Serious Sam 3 on PC illustrates that there is clearly a market willing to pay for PC games,” habitually bombastic and possibly fictional chief financial officer Fork Parker told Destructoid.

“It’s on the developers and publishers to put something out on the market that’s worth paying for in the first place. Those that place the blame on the consumer need to rethink the quality of their products and the frequency in which they shovel out derivative titles each year.”

Parker sparked the discussion by commenting that Serious Sam 3 BFE “combats piracy by being a fun, frantic game”, and that “gamers will pay for awesome”.

“Piracy will happen but don’t blame sales below expectations on just pirates. Maybe the game sucks,” Parker said later on Twitter.

“Piracy is a fact of life. Like lasagna or herpes,” he added.

Serious Sam 3: BFE is out now.

Thanks, Gamefront.

I don’t know if I just wasn’t in the mood but when I played SS3 for an hour I didn’t enjoy a single minute of it.

I shall have to give it another go, enjoyed the first two afterall.
