Nintendo reveals Black Friday sales, Wii moves over 500,000 units

Nintendo’s revealed its Black Friday sales figures, confirming it’s been a successful kick-off of the holiday season thanks to titles such as Super Mario 3D Land and The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword.

Super Mario 3D Land, which released on Nov 11, became the fastest selling portable Mario game in history with more than 500,000 units moved since launch, confirmed Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime.

The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword also became the fastest selling Zelda game ever, with 535,000 copies sold since its US launch. The game released on Nov 20.

Fils-Aime said these successful releases also helped in moving units of both Nintendo 3DS and Wii. Last week’s 3DS sales rose by 325% compared to sales the week of November 6.

“What this has been able to do is drive our Nintendo 3DS business in only eight months to surpass the full first year volume of the original DS and we still have the bulk of the holiday to go,” Fils-Aime said, “and we still have the launch of Mario Kart 7 (out Sunday, Dec. 4) to continue driving our full-year sales on Nintendo 3DS.”

He also said that Wii had its biggest Black Friday ever, with more than 500,000 units sold.

“We know that Black Friday and that entire week is a key selling week and it is important for products like ours to have a jump in momentum and we were fortunate to see that,” Fils-Aime added.

“For us, it really was driven by unique and powerful software and what gives us confidence is that we still have more software to launch in the balance of this holiday period.”

You get the feeling that BF and Christmas are the only times the Wii is going to do well from now on.

Honestly the toss up has got to be between Ps3 and Xbox 360 because I hit all my stores the day of And They were all out of Ps3′s and running out of 360′s. I can’t wait to see how much growth Sony and Microsoft did this black friday because they had some pretty awesome bundles
