Expect “a new standard Sonic” for 2012, says Team Sonic producer
Team Sonic head Takashi Iizuka has promised an all-new “standard” Sonic the Hedgehog for next year.

His comments come in a Gamasutra interview celebrating the series’ 20th anniversary, with Sonic Generations launching in Europe today on PS3 and 360.
“I would like to make a new standard Sonic, a modern Sonic if you will, in 2012 and beyond,” Iizuka said.
He insisted that Generations’ release, however, was not the start of something new for the series, but rather a celebration of the past 20 years of the IP.
“I wouldn’t say that I think Generations is a new start. Instead, it’s more of the peaks of the past 20 years, is the way we’re approaching this. Generations is about taking the past 20 years of history and rolling it into one really fun product.”
Besides Generations, there’s also Sonic 4: Episode 2 still to come, info of which is coming soon, according to what Sega West CEO Mike Hayes told VG247 before gamescom.

It can’t be any worse than the last standard of Sonic.

YEAH, WE DO A DECENTISH ONE WITH SONIC GENERATIONS TO WIN YOU BACK AND THEN WE GO BACK TO THESE SHITTY 3D SONICs THAT ABOUT 3 OF YOU LOVE!!!
Wait to see how Sonic Generations does first, then make your mind up on what to do. They crank out a new Sonic game every 12 months and none of them are good, the best ones were the XBLA re-releases which is telling.
Sonic Generations does look alright actually, im slowly warming to that game.

Do they mean a crap one by that? Because every “standard” Sonic game in the last 10 years has been utter crap. The only decent ones are the Anniversary game (Generations) and the Colors spin-off.
