Rumour - Microsoft to debut streaming games service in 2012

Whisperers believe Microsoft is to launch a "universal gaming platform" to rival streaming games service OnLive as early as next year.

Claiming a Microsoft source, Electronic Theatre reports the new service will incorporate Xbox Live functionality into all Microsoft devices, including Windows Phone 7 and PCs running Windows 8.

The new Live service is said to be able to deliver games to all formats, much as XBLA games like Full House Poker is playable on both Xbox 360 and Windows Phone 7.

Once an Xbox 360 game has been purchased and activated on the console, the report suggests you'll be able to continue playing that game on any Windows device with an active Internet connection, right off the cloud.

Microsoft does not comment on rumour or speculation.

Thanks, CVG.
