Sony outlines plans for Vita Remote Play

Wednesday, 5th October 2011 20:27 GMT By Stephany Nunneley

Shuhei Yoshida has shared additional details on Sony’s Remote Play plans for Vita in the latest issue of Famitsu.

Originally demoed during TGS, Remote Play was shown through a wired connection between PS3 and Vita, which was necessary due to so many at the event using wireless. However, Yoshida promised the same level of speed would be attainable wireless as with wired.

PS3 titles that are played via Remote Play will need a bit of customization for memory and CPU use, but Sony is working on facilitating this and a beta version of the feature will be sent out to developers in order to test upcoming and previously released titles.

Vita owners will also be able to use the handheld as a PS3 controller, with the screen acting as a sub-monitor and Yoshida said the firm is looking to create utility libraries which will allow developers to use the Vita touch screen.

There’s no word on when Remote Play support will be ready for PS3 games, but Vita owners will be able to try it at launch through Torne in Japan, which is a popular device with digital video recorder capabilities for PS3. It will be made available through a December update.

Thanks, Andriasang.
