SCEE confirms gamescom presser for August 16

Friday, 22nd July 2011 12:11 GMT By Johnny Cullen

Sony Computer Entertainment Europe has announced it’s to hold its gamescom presser on August 16.

The event will begin at 7pm and end at 8pm.

Expect this to be heavily Vita-focused, with worldwide dates – or at least, a European timeline – possibly announced. Press will also be allowed to try the handheld after the press conference has finished.

Also expect showings of Uncharted 3 and Resistance 3 during the presser.

Unless another event springs up, this pretty much confirms the line-up for this year’s show. Here’s the full goods.

Tuesday, August 16:

  • Microsoft Play Day – 12.30pm – 3.30pm
  • EA Press Conference – 4.00pm – 5.00pm
  • Sony Press Conference – 7.00pm – 8.00pm

Wednesday, August 17:

  • NCSoft Press Conference – 9.15am – 10.00am

Myself and Pat will be in Cologne when everything goes down. gamescom happens from August 17-21, with it opening to the public on the 18th.

Of course it is. How about this for a shocker, it’ll take place at 6 across the road from the EA press conference.

I’m more interested in NCSoft Press conference, but they will probably fuck it anyway.
Maybe they will finally reveal new character and will give exactly time for the beta.

    Guild wars 2 FTW.

Sony – Vita date confirmation is good too, but the release date for Vita is probably for the next year… Price cut for PS3 probably… New games from Sony. I want to see Quantic Dream new game.

    Microsoft – i don’t give a rats ass anymore.

EA – Battlefield 3 BETA and multiplayer footage :D

PS: also, GSC “probably” will show teaser for S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 . I hope so. They love Gamescom.

I don’t know why Sony bother having a presser. There’s never anything interesting.

“Play Day” is a terrible name for an event. It sounds like an edutainment show for pre-schoolers.

And judging from the E3 conference, that’s exactly what it’ll be. :-D

@4, last year it was Resistance 3 + Ratchet and Clank All4One.

resistance 3 maybe is crap, but Ratchet and Clank can be cool for some people.

thats Microsoft who should not show something… because they don’t have something to show except for the old stuff.

I hope EA has good things for its conference, but I think the highlight of that lineup is going to be, NCSoft.

Ι want a Bf3 PS3 bundle, EA seems to care more about the PS3 version anyway.

No. EA shouldn’t devote most interest to a platform that their main competitor has exclusivity agreements and whatever other deals in place to trump any announcement they make, with.

The PS3 platform doesn’t have that gamble in place (CoD can do a good enough job of alienation on the 360, without much influence of EA), it doesn’t have a dominion established, a chokehold applied over its FPS market. The fans there are more receptive, they have a stronger level of developer support and loyalty (not in isolated pockets and instances)

So, if they are placing resources and focusing on PS3 for BF3, then that would be a sound idea, really. It may also reassure players looking forward to BF3 that they won’t end up with the thin of the wedge when it comes to playability and content support once the game’s out.

EA signed some agreement with sony sometime last year, and started getting additional content on Ea released games, and in the future. Also seeing how activision has its modern warfare exclusive with microsoft, it makes sense that Ea favors the ps3 over xbox 360 with Battlefield 3, considering microsoft will be hyping up modern warfare.
