Rumor – Ultimate MvC3 for Comic-Con announcement

The comics blog The Quarter Bin has posted a rumor that during Comic-Con next week, Capcom will announce Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3. Granted, Ryota Niitsuma will be announcing news at a Marvel vs. Capcom 3 panel and Marvel Interactive will also be holding a panel discussing “some exciting new details about the future of Marvel vs. Capcom 3.” The site also states Capcom will launch Ultimate MvC3 at a discounted price of $39.99 which will include 12 extra characters. Maybe it is DLC. Maybe it is indeed an “ultimate” title. We’ll see next week, we suppose. Thanks, Joystiq.

Called it. Though it would hardly be a surprise, like i said; People ate up their SF4 re releases, over and over again.

The whole thing with Capcom is getting ridiculous. They shipped a barebones SF4 and then added the real content with SSF4. They could have added the additional modes to MvC3 after SSF4 but no, they released another barebones game and kept charging high prices for mostly stupid DLC… and now the cycle continues.

Imagine if other fighter publishers had done the same:
Super Soul Calibur 4
Dead or Alive 5 Arcade Edition
Mortal Kombat Ultra: Championship edition
Ultimate Tekken 6 Alpha Edition

Tell ya what Capcom, you screwed me on SF4, and if you screw me on my $80 collectors edition of MVC3, I will personally stand at Walmart and solicit my copies to any potential buyers of a new one AND never buy a Capcom game again. You guys must be taking lessons at the “how to take your loyal fans for granted and rape them every chance you get” academy of business.

I don’t know what the big surprise is. Did we expect this not to happen? Capcom does this with all of their games. They’re the most “progressive” Japanese company when it comes to DLC, but without the learned, ah, tact of most Western companies. They’re still nakedly selling horse armor.

Resident Evil 5 had half its multiplayer as DLC only. Mega Man 9 had Proto Man and challenge modes all sold separately. SFIV had pre-selected costume sets all sold separately, and *then* all sold together after fans had been milked. (All of the above was on the disc; Capcom DLC is almost invariably a <100kb unlock.) A year later, SFIV was re-released as SSFIV, then again a year after that, in between which Mega Man 10 had a similar scheme to 9. Etc, etc. Probably Lost Planet 2 as well, if anyone played it.

If you're still buying Capcom games, you're either willing to get screwed or you're willing to go without. There is a third sort of person, but this is a family blog.

If this is DLC, I won’t have a problem with it. If it’s retail only, fuck you, Capcom.

If its not DLC, make it for 3DS/PSV too.

@9 This isn’t gonna be DLC. It will be a retail game. The DLC game will be called Super MvC3: Arcade Edition and will be announced next year.

I don’t get why anyone is actually surprised, I mean this is Capcom we are dealing with here. Look at what they’ve done with Street fighter 4.

I’m glad I didn’t buy MvC3 now. May pick this one up if you can actually spectate online matches instead of seeing two player cards hump each other until your turn.

Urghhh, whats that? Capcom releases a fighting game then later releases a full priced ‘what should of been’ game? Then does it again adding ‘arcade’ or ‘super’ or something else to justify it’s a completely new game?

Fuck, capcom they are so fucking lazy. Marvel vs capcom 3 was a bit of a dissapointment anyway but it’s a joke they should release another with simply extra characters.

Wait, you guys actually think this could possibly be dlc? It’s 12 fucking characters and with Capcom behind it, it will probably be a full retail.

Well, Capcom did release all the RE5 Gold stuff and the SSFIV Arcade Edition updates as DLC. But I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s a retail disc, in which case, I’m not biting.
