Levine: “No plans” to develop Wii U titles at Irrational in foreseeable future

Irrational boss Ken Levine has said there’s no current plans to make titles for Wii U in the near future at least, but didn’t rule out developing for the system entirely.

These comments come despite Levine himself appeared on a B-roll talking about its possibilities at Nintendo’s E3 press conference last month. He also touched upon Vita, where he announced he would be bringing a new BioShock game to the Sony handheld.

“Just to be clear, there are no plans. I’m not saying it can’t happen, but we have no plans to do any games for that platform,” he told IGN.

He goes on to continue: “We’re now getting to a place with Vita and what Nintendo’s doing where that’s not necessarily going to be the case, where you can play full-on hardcore games in bed with the lights out while your wife’s asleep. I like that a lot. That means a lot to me. On the airplane? That means a lot to me as a core gamer, that you’ve got two sticks.

“That’s so important to me. The fact that the Wii U has got two sticks… I feel it’s like… It’s a great year for the core coming back and saying, ‘okay, have your touch screens, have your motion control, we’ll try to make that work, and if you can pull that off it’ll be really good.'”

Levine may have announced a new BioShock title for Vita at E3, but don’t expect the same courtesy in regards to the series making the jump to iOS.

“That’s not the kind of game I’m going to make,” he said.

“It is a core game. I love my iPad. The games that I play — Civ Revolution on my iPad, I play 100 Rogues on my iPad — I tend to play core games. I’m not a huge Fruit Ninja guy, it just doesn’t interest me.

“I respect what those guys do, and obviously they’re able to tap into a kind of zeitgeist that is outside what I do, and I respect that a lot, but it’s just not me. I’m a core gamer. If you’re looking at me to make a game like that, you’re probably hiring the wrong dude.”

Levine’s latest, BioShock Infinite, launches in 2012 for PS3, 360 and PC.
