Crystal Dynamics focusing on Tomb Raider, not Lara Croft
Crystal Dynamics has said it doesn’t have plans on making another Lara Croft game, as it will instead focus from here on out on the Tomb Raider brand.

Speaking with Joystiq at E3, the firm’s global brand manager Karl Stewart said the team will not be creating a sequel to The Guardian of Light and the team which created it has moved on to the reboot shown at E3.
“We’re not making a second one,” Stewart said. “We’re not making a second Lara. For us, that Lara Croft was, in a way, it was sort of the furthest possible extension of that iteration of Lara. Once we finished Guardian of Light, obviously we knew we were making this version of Tomb Raider.
“In business terms, it was very successful,. In terms of issues, the one issue that plagued us all the way through, which looking back we would’ve changed our minds to do other things, was definitely the online. I wish if we had the ability and had the information, we could’ve been a bit more transparent.”
Stewart goes on to say that Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light was a “creative side endeavor” for the studio, and that its director, Daniel Neuberger, is now the director of the new Tomb Raider.
The latest Tomb Raider is expected to hit sometime in 2012 for PS3 and Xbox 360.

Seriously, what the fuck. What the fuck.
So, games that are better than their parent franchises and manage to sell bucketloads can’t get a sequel? This industry is mad sometimes.
Fuck this news up the shithole.

Renew Legacy of Kain. It’s too bad that they don’t intend to release another LC game, although, if they feel they did what they wanted, do we need a sequel for the sake of it. It’s good they move forward from that, with experience of download market as a bonus.

I vote for another LoK as well. Sad to hear that LCATGOL won’t be getting a new edition. When I first saw it, I thought “What the hell is this crap”, but after playing it, I couldn’t get enough of it, it was just amazing.
I really hope the new TR game will be good enough to compensate.

The Legacy of Kain series was too deep and didn’t sell that well work with the games that do then think about reviving other franchises if they feel they need to but since the original team is not there and the writer from the LOK has moved on to more childish games like Jak and Dax. Not sure how they could unless they want to just make it pure hack and slash with no story.

This news would be more of a blow if Tomb Raider didn’t look great.
Oh. and yes, new Soul Reaver please.

That is not confirmation that is just them if anything seeing if it would work. All developers do that or should to see if its marketable. I have done so many focus groups and play testing of games I have yet to see most of them hit the shelf.

The new Tomb Raider looks amazing, so I’m glad they didn’t decide to just continue the old franchise.

Good decision, the reboot with young Lara looks cool but, if it’s a success, time to end Lara Croft on a high note and move on.
If it bombs, of course, obviously time to find a new character.

Aw, Guardian of Light was cool. I’d have liked another one of those.

Dropping the LC character would be the most ridiculous thing to do with TR, it’s like ceasing to use Mario or Zelda; it’s a good thing they won’t make any spin offs though, i didn’t like it.
