3DS “black screen of death” error reports creep in

Reports from multiple users suggest the 3DS is suffering from a recurring crash issue, across multiple titles.

Posts on NeoGaf, AVForums, and DigitalSpy are reporting instances of the freshly-christened “black screen of death” error requiring a hard reset of the system.

Super Monkey Ball, Street Fighter IV 3D, Pilotwings, Ghost Recon, Lego Star Wars, and Mii applications have all been mentioned in connection to the error.

Some users have found the issue is resolved by the reset suggested on-screen, while others have reformatted their SD cards to FAT-32 format and eliminated the problem.

Others have had less luck resolving ongoing crashes, and have resorted to returning the console to the retailer for replacement.

We’ve reached out to Nintendo for official comment and more information.

Thanks, Go Nintendo.

BSOD on the 3DS is happening here with some of my friends, mostly with Super Monkey Ball. Nice to know Nintendo wanted to be part of History with the BlackScreenOfDeath..along with other gaming devices….LOL!!

Not unusual for new kit, but rather unusual for new Nintendo kit! Seems they are catching up with everyone else after all! :-D

I’ve had no problems with mine, and i’ve been playing a lot of Ridge Racer and Rayman.

Providing it can be fixed with a force re-start, then I imagine Nintendo will be able to fix the issue with a firmware update.

It’s hardly a screen of Death in the RROD and YLOD sense. More like a Black Screen Of Crash. It of course depends if it is a game issue, firmware issue or underlying hardware problem. If it’s not firmware then is there functionality to patch games at all? What is the firmware update functionality of the 3DS like?

If it’s not deadly there’s no real problem, but it happens with a lot of games!

I remember the times of guru meditations! LOL

i had this problem occur to me when I tested the 3DS, but it was in Jap letters.

I think it happens when the 3ds is run for a long time, i dunno
