Quick Shots: Saints Row 3 promotional art

Volition has released a small amount of Saints Row 3 art, along with the promise of “fantasic surprises” in store.

Speaking to Eurogamer, Volition’s Eric Baker said fans have “some fantastic surprises ahead”, although wouldn’t be drawn on specifics.

Baker also confirmed that some of the Red Faction: Armageddon team will move onto Saints Row once the shooter releases in May.

    “We Dare” is also Fun.

    Saints Row is just a sup bar game in everything. Gameplay, graphics, story. Everything is at the turd level.

    Tis lookin good, Saint’s Row was never meant to be about genre defining gameplay, graphics or realism. It’s always meant to be just be fun, load it up and mess about, sure it’ll never be one of the best games ever made, but it’ll sure be one of the most fun.

    But saying that those pics though Crysis’ link look really nice. ^_^

    @1 Thanks for the scans, looks great fun again.

    Really liked the previous games, nice to see them making it a series in spite of the really quite weird hate they get. Sure it’s not a technological marvel, but games are about fun to me.

    I totally disagree that SR2 was a ‘turd’, Erth. It was buggy as hell, but it was actually a damned good game. With a bit more polish, etc.

    Screens are nothing special, if the game is to release in 2011 I want to see more :(

    @8, it was a good game? It was a generic copy cat of Grand Theft auto: San Andreas

    I think you just hungry for “More fun” GTA experience which GTA 4 was not because of it seriousness.

    Saints row 2 had bad graphics, cars are coffins without decent physics, story is just shitty for the already shitty “dudeBros” setting. Missions are also generic. City is ugly and copy paste all over the place.

    how Saints row 2 can be a good game? :D

    Fun is subjective. also, You can have a lot of fun playing “We Dare” from Ubisoft with a pair of friends. :D

    Never liked this series. They shamelessly borrowed from GTA and produced games which were inferior in almost every possible way. There are certain games that simply don’t interest me at all regardless of how “fun” they might be, and this is one of them.

    Erth is the kind of guy who would decline to sleep with a Victoria’s Secret model, because the “edges of her face don’t have 16x anti-aliasing”, “her eyes can’t see in 1080p”, “her boob physics are last-gen”, “her moans aren’t in 7.1 surround sound” and “she just can’t seem to do it at 60Fps ;) “.

    …okay, maybe I went a little too far with that analogy.

    Whilst I’m not saying Saint’s Row didn’t openly take a lot from GTA’s design (as is with most games in a genre), it did add several features which, found their way into GTA4. Things like the GPS, mobile phone and so on.

    Lets face it Saint’s Row has always been a game that’s just meant to be fun, and quite frankly, there’s nothing wrong with that. Likewise, is it a bad thing there’s another game in the open world city genre? Imo, not in the slightest, if we’re gonna get all “it’s stealing everything from GTA”, then surely that means all platform games have stole directly from Super Mario Bros or all 3D platformers stole everything from Super Mario 64?

    So if you have a genre, are we saying there should only be one title per genre, cos all other games in that genre are clones and stealing everything from the first?

    Having multiple titles within a genre is absolutely fine. Games taking influence from other games is fine. The problem is, Saints Row isn’t just the same genre (sandbox, action, whatever you want to call it) and isn’t just influenced by GTA – it was a clear attempt at trying to mimic GTA.

    Using your platform games example – Super Mario and Sonic, two VERY different games within the same genre. Absolutely fine. But let’s take a page out of Saints Row’s book and use the same setting, so instead of a blue hedgehog, lets go with a cartoonized Italian labourer. Not so fine.

    I’m guessin ye only played SR1, as SR2, was made to be it’s own game and steer itself away from the “GTA clone” comparisons. There’s no denying SR1 was a clone is very many respects built around the gang terf feature of San Andreas. The Devs said for SR2 they wanted to move away from the game being so closely related to GTA. So they made the game to be more of a sandbox from the off. You had choice who’s missions to do and when if you wanted to follow the story. If not there’s was plenty to do in the city outside of the story. They also made the character creation tool a major part of the game, not only allowing you to do the standard change clothes, but complete re-customisation when you wanted to change ye race, gender, voice emotes build etc. They also added full co-op play, if ye wanted to play the story fully co-op or just mess about with ye mate it was do-able. The point in SR2 was just to distance itself from GTA’s more serious tone and to just give players a playground to mess about in.
    Like I said, SR1 I can understand being considered a clone, but SR2 made an effort to try to become it’s own title. Either way tho, I’d really not consider either title to be on par with a gameloft title in terms of clone-ism, least SR1 did bring some new features to the genre, as I stated before, like the GPS, mobile phone, NPC phone numbers, hidden numbers etc.
