Alice: Madness Returns gets first gameplay footage

IGN off-screened Spicy Horse’s Alice: Madness Returns at GDC this week, showing the game’s actual play for the first time. Alice is seeking to reveal the truth of his parents’ murder, a quest demonstrably involving running around, collecting stuff, stabbing enemies and hitting things with a horse’s head. Alice releases this June. There are two movies down below.

Gameplay mechanics in games that need to change:

1. Walls that disappear after you’ve killed a certain amount of enemies (see Devil may Cry, God of War, Alice, Dante’s Inferno, Bayonetta etc…).

As soon as i play a game with these in, no matter how good the graphics or other gameplay, it just takes me back to playing Devil may Cry on the PS2…

2. Fetch quests (Read dead, GTA, Dead Space etc…) As soon as a game feels it’s necesary to pad itself out with fetch quests it completly removes my feeling of immersion.

As soon as i see these being used in games, i just think it’s lazy, the next generation will only start when people can think of new ideas to combat these kind of problems. It get’s very boring playing different games only to find the same worn out mechanics in them every time…

I remember at it’s time this game was a big step forward in terms of immersion and graphics.

Now look at this. Consoles will have Sup Bar 720p, while PC version will be dumbed down.

@3

Dumbed down?! It is and always was a fairly generic platform slasher. I loved the original on the PC mainly because it had a rare ‘console game’ like feel at the time which was a rare thing. The graphics were also very unique.

This just looks generic at best, don’t cry about the PC version being “dumbed down”, it was never going to be anything more than a platform game with action elements!

Really enjoying the art style; what I can’t stand is the completely uninspired “footprints mark” that shows when Alice jumps. That needs to be changed before release.
