Apple event pretty much confirms iPad 2 reveal for next week

Apple seems poised to announce the successor to iPad on March 2, as invites to the event are being sent out to media-type folks as we speak.

New regarding the invites is all over the place, and it’s said to be taking place at 10.00am PST on March 2 at the Yuerba Buena Center for the Arts in San Francisco – right next door to GDC 2011.

Invitations are showing a rather large number 2 with the corner peeled back revealing what looks like an iPad underneath. The invite also says: “Come and see what 2011 will be the year of.”

Obvious, really. Despite being not quite one year old, the iPad has shifted 15 million units. Its successor is said to sport an improved display, slimmer profile, and video chat support, as well as extdned support for varying global mobile networks.

Yesterday, All Things Digital posted that insider sources had told it about the event. Looks like the insider sources were correct.

They may as well announce the third at the same time, save us waiting another 11 months.

And where the iPhone 5? Its been like, a WHOLE 5 months!

I would be interested but as #3 pointed out, they announce a new one like 5 months down the line. So what’s the point in spending that amount of money on a machine they intend to make either obsolete or incapable of using new apps after a certain date?
