Armored Core V will be a fully online game, says From Software

Armored Core V, From Software’s other game besides Dark Souls, is coming next year, and according to the game’s producer Toshifumi Nabeshima the core gameplay has stayed the same but the emphasis this time out was to bring the game fully online.

Speaking with Gamespot during Namco’s press event this week, Nabeshima said the team had to change quite a few things around to get the entire game online, and unlike past games in the series, the single-player story mode is online as well as the competitive modes – thus the full game is online all the time.

Online in the past translated into versus play, and while Armored Core V still maintains this style of play, From Software wants the player to “live in the game’s online space, not just play against one another,” by encouraging players to form teams online so they may share rewards, victories and defeats.

In terms of story, the game is not a continuation of past games as it is an entirely new story written specifically for Armored Core V.

You can watch the full interview with Nabeshima below, as well as watch the announcement trailer and look over a massive library of screenshots.

Armored Core V is slated for release in Japan later this year, and an early 2012 release in the US and Europe.

yeah, he said in the interview that previous games just had the multiplayer online, with offline SP, but this time around the full shebang is an online affair.

I really like FROM’s attitude to online, or more correctly, connected play. I over what they did with Demon’s Souls, turning every player into an extra in every one else’s game is a stroke of genius, I’ll be very, very interested in this with that in mind.

Actually, these screens are reminding me more and more of chromehounds, another FROM title which I loved to bits. Now that was very innivative in the online space. Getting very excited now :)
