Rumour: Infinity Ward developing Ghost-based Call of Duty 4 prequel

Wednesday, 5th January 2011 15:12 GMT By Johnny Cullen

According to a story on, Infinity Ward is developing a prequel based on Ghost from Modern Warfare 2.

The game will apparently lead up to the events of Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, showing how Ghost became a main part of Task Force 141 in MW2, as told in the series of David Lapham comics on Ghost put out around the time of MW2′s release.

These events will revisit COD4 and MW2, but this time from Ghost’s perspective.

Obviously, this could be absolutely untrue in every sense. We’ll ask Activision.

VG247 was told by US development sources last January that, before ex-heads Jason West and Vince Zampella were fired from the studio for insubordination, that Infinity Ward was not creating Modern Warfare 3.

Activision COO Thomas Tippl confirmed in a financial call last May that Infinity Ward was still working on something in the Call of Duty universe, although what that is unknown.

The future of the COD IP has also been determined outside of Infinity Ward: Treyarch will release the first map pack for Black Ops, First Strike, on February 1.

Upstart Sledgehammer Games, led by ex-Visceral bosses Glen Schofield and Michael Condery, is also working on a title in the series.

It’s thought that game is set in space, although nothing has been officially announced yet by Activision.

i can say i wont bother with any cod again now at all, blacks ops was the last thing i gave a damn about.

WHY? i dont want no game made by infinity sellouts and relative unknowns and i certainly dont want a game made by treyarch that ‘improves’ on the infinity sellouts and relative unknowns game.

as for sledgehammer same thing applies to them as the unknowns, not interested

After what Activision did to the original IW team i couldnt care less about the CoD franchise.
IW made CoD what it is and Activision just kick them to the curb just for a lousy “couple” of bucks.
Still havent touch black ops because of that, i trully hope that CoD goes the way of the “dodo”.

    This is very plausible.

Only a brand new engine would continue my interest in this series now..the last 3 or 4 all look too alike.

WHY?!!! FINISH OFF FROM WHERE YOU ENDED!!!! Don’t pretend to make a “new game” by using the same skins and maps from older games *facepalm*

I very much dislike prequels. I prefer progress and going forward instead of revisiting past.

Why not? That would be interesting. But please, give Ghost a voice and character. That’s what i loved about Black Ops; they gave Mason a voice and a character.

@2: Oh stop crying. You shouldn’t even be talking if you haven’t played Black Ops. It’s a fantastic game.

@3: “IW made CoD what it is” And they also destroyed it. MW2 was probably the worst CoD in the franchise. Especially with it’s *shutters* story.

umm guys you know that cliffhanger at the end of MW2? yea finish that first -_-

acti can milk the series for as long as they can but it doesn’t mean you need to drag out the story too.
