Treyarch “didn’t really get the credit” it deserved for work on MW2 multiplayer tech, says Kotick

With the ongoing legal battle between Activision, Infinity Ward, and former employees of the firm, neither side can really discuss anything in great detail regarding the drama which ensued earlier this year.

However, with the amount of folks exiting Infinity Ward in the first month or so, it had the gaming public wondering if Activision could recover from the loss of talent.

According to the firm’s CEO Bobby Kotick, people were clamoring to fill the vacant positions.

“We’re in the video game business,” he told Joystiq. “If we can’t replace twenty-five people, that would say something pretty disappointing about us as a company. There’s no shortage of talented people who want to work on Call of Duty.”

When asked why the company didn’t just fill vacant positions left with folks from Treyarch and Sledgehammer, Kotick said to do so would have been detrimental to those teams.

“Well there’s at least 60 or 70, super-talented, amazingly capable people who are there,” he said. “They shouldn’t have to suffer for the bad actions of a couple of guys. They have a great culture; they’re really good independent thinkers; incredible technology base. They can get support like they did from Treyarch, from Demonware and other places.”

It’s been reported by the firm that over  5,000 resumes have been submitted for positions at Infinity Ward, and with responsibilities for the Call of Duty franchise being divided with Treyarch, calling the Black Ops developer “the B-team” is not a correct assessment.

“That’s an unfair view of Treyarch,” said Kotick. “You know it’s not really an objective view. Treyarch contributed so significantly to the multiplayer technology that’s in Modern Warfare 2 and they didn’t really get the credit for that.”

With Black Ops becoming the “biggest entertainment launch in history” and selling over 1.4 million units in its first day on sale in the UK and 4.2 million in the US, Kotick’s view of Treyarch is probably spot on.

Then doesn’t John Carmack deserve some credit for making the tools they made the technology with?

Right… now that Infinity Ward bailed out Treyarch is the best in the world, blah.
The day Treyarch does something that isnt a copy from Infinity Ward will sell my house for 1€.(not really but you get my point)
Still not convience that Black Ops has beatten MW2 to me feel like its all a stunt by Activision just to show that they dont need Infinity Ward.

Man, whatever. Black ops is waaaayyyy better than mw2 (opinion of course) and I believe treyarch does deserve some credit. Mw2 was a fun, yet fundamentally broken game. I mean, shotguns as secondary weapons, c’mon. There is such a thing as too much and mw2 supports that. Black ops mp has a much better balance and a better feel (opinion once again). And before you talk about launch problems with the tech remember mw2 was the same deal.

I admit, Infinity Ward made the awesome decision they made with MW1. However, I think they just took the success they had with it and expected to sell as much for the sequel regardless what they did with it. Activision made that even worse with the crazy marketing they put behind it, which eventually left people like me completely dissapointed with the end product. IW did not even listen to the community like Treyarch have.

Treyarch actually had polls on and “AskJD” sessions on Twitter. Do you really think Robert Bowling would have done anything like that? Naw, hes a stealth clown. -_-’

Treyarch listen to their community and this is shown through their games. They added things like zombies and now dead ops arcade for those who want to take a break from the campaign just for that extra finishing touch. To make their games memorable.

After the whole IW debacle, I believe it was time for Treyarch to really do something and look more like the primary developer for COD which alot of people may agree that IW had it with past COD games especially MW2. Treyarch took that chance to make a game which was their own and stands out from all the other COD games, and in my opinion I believe they have stolen the crown from IW. This is evident with the balancing and weapon choices like the crossbow and ballistic knife, the addition of extensive customisation and the Wager Matches which are absolutely awesome.

Before I get loads of hate comments saying im a Treyarch fanboy or whatever Id like to make clear that I am not and that what I have said are merely my OPINONS. NOT FACT.

Im just trying to give credit to Treyarch where it is due, and IMO Black Ops is where it is earned.

I was disappointed in black ops, the graphics are the same as world at war if not then worse the gameplay isnt even close to as smooth as mw2 and they patched quick scoping they might as well make every gun semi-auto cause some shoot faster than others. its just dumb but i still play it cause its new. not just my opinion, i have more than 20 people on my friends list that say it in their comment, and about half my school (grades 9-12).

another thing i dont like is when people knife, it has to be the cheapest thing in the game for example if i were to shoot someone with the m16 it takes 3 bullets to kill but if they press knife just on that last bullet the bullet goes throught them and they get me it has happend about 30 especially when im one kill away from dogs. they should replace the knife with melee with your gun, maybe 2 to the body and 1 to the head just an idea. im not bad either my k/d/r is over 2.00. One last thing lol if you disagree on the graphics being bad try playing mw2 and spotting a claymore, pretty easy but now try it on black ops, i play on a 50″ hdtv and its almost impossible to see that thing even with HACKER its still pretty hard to see.
