Civilization V reviews get rounded up – scores are mostly in the 9′s

civ v

Civilization V is out in the US today, and so far the reviews that have come in are rather good.

Get rounded up below.

The majority of scores handed out so far are in the 9′s, with Eurogamer and Wired both giving it the lowest score yet – a nothing to sneeze at 8.

As usual, if you av any links to add, please do so in the comments section.

There’s a demo available for the game now on Steam, and Civ V launches in Europe on September 24.

It’s a god damn masterpiece and i can’t wait for this game to come out.

On metacritic it’s already 94%

and judging by the demo it’s a MASTERPIECE. Let the children enjoy their overrated Halo.

Civilization is what gaming on PC is all about. Really great game.

Demo wowed me a lot, i even forgot about the presentation and visuals. It’s just there are so MUCH stuff. The final product is going to be insane. That sucker will steal so much of my time… Jeez.

Sooo excited for this! I played an awful lot of Civ4 but for about 2yrs have had a crappy laptop. Am getting my first proper gaming-capable pc in years very soon. Will be all over this.

Been with Civ since the first iteration and it just gets better and better!

The review on eurogamer said that the AI was poor and (although I havent played any of the series yet) a friend of mine did ask me if the AI makes crazy demands and it appears from their review, it still does.

Good AI is a must for any strategy games but yet time and time again the AI falls short (just look at the past few Total War games).

Downloaded the demo and will play tomorrow. fingers crossed it ticks all the right boxes

So far so good. Jumped on an American VPN and unlocked my copy early.

I’ve only played an hour, but so far it’s as good as the hype.

I do miss the very upbeat art of Civ IV, this one’s very dark and “realpolitik”, and so far I haven’t found a replacement for religion, which I’m gonna miss, but the combat has moved leaps and bounds. Every engagement is just ten times more rewarding.

It’s a completely different game, but it’s definitely not bad.

Loving the game thus far. As for AI making outragious demands? Maybe, sometimes, but no more then has been done in history. And that is often the way it goes. For me it doesn’t ruin the experience one bit. And city states are awesome!

Surprised to see this getting anything less than top marks from anyone (apart from Eurogamer, heh). Only heard good things about it from…. pretty much everywhere.

This is one sweet game.

The bugs are very few, there’s no graphics slowdown, but there also aren’t a lot of civilizations to choose from (obvious DLC scheme imo).

I tried playing one of the middle difficulties and that was ridiculously easy, so obviously that’s changed a lot. I’m gonna have to study those a bit closer.

The city states and the diplomacy has just made it a far deeper game, and while the combat might be simpler than I thought, it’s still leaps and bounds ahead. It could’ve kept religions imo, that was a great feature, but the new policy system is nice and sharp.

It might be missing a bit of balance, but I don’t see anything you can’t play around.

On a more awesome note, I didn’t realize you had to pick your civilization before starting the game, so it did the random roll, and I STILL ended up with Bismarck. Made of win.

I’ve played an obscene ammount of hours since yesterday. I just have to get that last turn in :P
