Activision has announced a November release for Blood Drive, a game in which contestants use vehicles to battle each other and zombies “in a televised game show” featuring tournaments and six different environments.

In it, you will face “undead frat boys, cops, strippers and bachelorette partiers, each with their own special brand of death and devastation – and ways to die”.

The game also features multiplayer modes where up to four folks can drop in and drop out of the bloodbath at any time.

“Over-the-top vehicular combat and zombies are two things that go great together,“ said Activison’s David Pokress. “What more is there to say?”

No exact date was included in the press release, but GameStop has it listed as  a November 2 release in the US on PS3 and Xbox 360, and Game has it down for November 19 in the UK.

I don’t remember twisted metal having zombies. Then again the last one i played was #2. This seems to be focused on killing non-motorized npc’s (cops, zombies, etc.) as well as other vehicles. Every car(vehicle) combat game is NOT twisted metal.

I fail to see how this resembles Twisted Metal. it looks like a Carmageddon style game.

Carmageddon never had weapons though. And the kooky cars do resemble Twisted Metals art style.

I guess they’re going for a mix.

Personally I think that’s missing the point. I always felt like Carmageddon blew Twisted Metal off the road. It was just awesome to use the car itself as a weapon, rather than just strapping a gun on it and using it like any old boring tank.

I did prefer Carmageddon to TM/Vigilante 8 myself due to it’s combat, but also because of the scope and everything else. it blew those console games out of the water to be honest.

Is vehicle combat coming back?

It seems like a REALLY outdated genre, but heck, if fighting games can come back then this can too.

Twisted Metal, Blood Drive, Red Factions: Battlegrounds; Lets hope they are all great!

Apparently the game is being developed by Sidhe Interactive, the guys who made Shatter for PSN
