Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot has said work on Beyond Good & Evil 2 has never stopped, and the team is continuing to hammer away on it.

Speaking with Kotaku at gamescom, Guillemot told the site it has to be “perfect”.

“We were, as we are, working on the game,” said Guillemot. “What is very important with this next product is that it will be perfect.

“Michel Ancel’s intention is to come [out] with something really exciting. But everybody needs a little bit of patience.”

Guillemot said Ubisoft had mixed feelings regarding the original, as it garnered glowing reviews but had lackluster sales.

“I would say the game was very well appreciated by the people who played it,” Guillemot said. “But we didn’t have enough people when it was launched. After its time it become a very recognized product.”

With Beyond Good & Evil 2, Guillemot expects the buzz already generated regarding a game that’s not even out yet will fuel the sales.

Hopefully, this news makes a lot of folks happy, then, even if it’s been said for ages.

Ancel, the creative director, said in the past BG&E 2 was being developed with as few people as possible to maximize creativity.

Well, you know, that idea worked out perfectly for Duke Nukem…

If this game ever sees the light of day and people dont go out and buy it, I will hunt them ALL down!! This deserves to become a HUGE franchise. The original was just BRILLIANT in every way possible! Please BUY THE SEQUEL when it comes out!

Do we really want it to turn into a huge franchise?

I’m ok with having a brilliant first game and waiting ages for a brilliant second game if it means the IP doesn’t get whored out.

I mean, look at the last Ancel game that became big, Rayman. It’s not until now (with the art style Rayman) that we’re seeing him come back to what looks like a good game.

I remember that alleged gameplay vid of Beyond Good and Evil 2 D’Toid had posted on YouTube a year or two back. Looked brilliant but way too impossible to actually be the game itself. The first Beyond Good and Evil was a technical marvel graphically, had great music, story, acting and gameplay to back it up. If Ubisoft were smart, they’d give Ancel what he wants and what he needs to get this game out and be the best it could possibly be.

@1 The game was only *announced* two years ago. A decent game being built from scratch take upwards of four years to create. There are examples of games taking five or six years to make.

Comparing that to Duke Nukem is a little extreme.
