EA announces Mass Effect 2 for PS3

masseffect2firearms

EA has just announced Mass Effect 2 for PS3.

Did you fall out of your chair with the news or where you expecting it?

We fell out of our chair, but for different reasons.

Anyway, the long-rumored and long-wished for PS3 version of our favorite space opera is coming in January 2011.

Those expecting this might pave the way for Mass Effect 1 should just stop hoping, though.

An EA representative has told IGN there are “no plans” to first the first Mass Effect game to PS3. No reason was given, but more likely than not it has to do with the fact Microsoft was the publisher for it in 2007.

Still, Mass Effect 2 for the Sony crowd.

Watch the announcement below.

i love how people say without the first one it will make no sense, it will cause they give that “last time on mass effect” thing as if it was a tv show. and thats what i got my information of the first mass effect and mass effect 2 made perfect sense. The story is not that hard to follow along.

GOW 3 would make no sense on the 360 without the first two, because the console would just start smoking and implode just trying to load up the intro.

I think that Me genisis thing that Gaf mentioned is the first ME, would be a way they could get it on to the Ps3.

So, they use compression… But I think that only when it is necessary. They could do this on Mass Effect 1 (let’s forget about the Microsoft deal on this discussion), but the loading wouldn’t be way longer? Specially with the Unreal Engine 3 problems?

@53 ROFL

Thing is though didn’t GOW3 have an unskippable montage as part of the opening credits?

Maybe they would just install it on your HD like most games seem to do these days? Loading times solved! Remember every PS3 has a HD :)

I’ve got a good slogan:

Sony PlayStation: Yesterday’s 360 exclusives…TODAY!

@54 and maybe it will be the announcement he mentioned there might be in a few weeks through magazines

As for ME1 i know a lot of people who didn’t actually finished it(they found it annoying from loading times to glitches and bugs) but they played through ME2 till the end.
EA could easily find a way to wrap things up story wise starting with ME2 on the ps3.

Off course it would be best if they included both games but i don’t think this is as easy as it sounds.

The good news are that a much wider audience will experience a great game alongside with it’s upcoming sequel…so some people should stop ruining it.

I am going to sell my copy of the 360 version to get the PS3 version. I still play it on 360 but i prefer trophies to achievements and i like the PS3 controller better. I also like that the PS3 is quiter too. just my opinions though. Its a great game no matter what console you play it on.
Hey TEA….Race to platinum?

When Insomniac went multi-plat I recall some vocal 360 fans berating PS3 fans for expressing less-than-gracious remarks to the new members of the audience. It’s reassuring to see that this behaviour isn’t quite as one-sided as some people try to make out.

Sadly (and shamefully), I’ve yet to find myself enjoy a BioWare RPG. Something just doesn’t click for me. I’m not disputing that they’re a stand-out developer though.

Oh no spiderLAW, I’ve waited too long for this game to come to PS3. Im going to sit there and enjoy every second of this games part by part day by day for however long I can stretch this orgasmic gaming miracle. I’ll be sitting in my man cave surrounded by 7.1 sound and a brand new 46″ Bravia XBR9 directly in front of me loving every moment of this game.

I’m treating this like the birth of a child moment where every sec must be realized in pure enjoyment and happiness and the sweet sound of those trophies will be the cherry on top.

This is my vengeance day for M$ fucking up FFXIII for me and every other FF die hard fan. Mass Effect 2 on PS3 is our REDEMPTION! So take your time and stretch it out as long as possible because the wait for Mass Effect 3 is shorter than the 360 people who have been waiting for the next.

2006 is well behind us! Welcome to 2010-2011 :D

Personally I prefer ME1, and it’s a shame, it won’t be out for PS3, but with that said.. ME2 isn’t a bad game itself, on the contrary, it managed to improve most things from the original, so I guess it’s win/win for those, who don’t know what they’re missing – especially if BioWare manage to re-tell the story in a decent way.

ok the only reason it would be better on PS3 is because they have had more time to develope it for PS3… Mass Effect 1 will never EVER come to PS3 because microsoft published it so stop asking… also there is no way to fit both those games on 1 disc… its a game… ok stop treating it like the coming of jesus christ!

@71

Glad to know i’m not the only one!

Despite Mass Effect 2′s improvements to accessibility, shooting and engine I believe the first to be the better game.

For starters the story is much better. 2′s story was 85% team building; although the individual character missions were interesting they rarely served towards the greater story arch. It felt almost like an anthology, consisting of several smaller stories rather than a large narrative. Mass Effect had a much more cohesive, consistent plot.

Then there’s Bioware’s decision to completely remove enjoyable (for me at least) RPG stalwarts like loot collection, inventory building, weapon/armour management. I appreciate the need to streamline things, but it was detrimental for me.

Finally I absolutely HATED the mining interface. Why on earth was it necessary to completely gut the MAKO instead of improving what was wrong (aiming)?! Not alone did they remove the mako, they replaced it with a slow, laborious, needlessly taxing (why on earth do you have to hold a button to scan?!) mini game.

Oh and ship fuel?… Was there really a need to manage fuel supplies?

Errrgh… Too much moaning. I REALLY enjoyed Mass Effect 2, I just enjoyed Mass Effect a hell of a lot more!

Lol awesome news! not that im 100% sure ill buy, but its another blow to xbox fanboys, and the xbox console as a whole. ps3, even after the yr headstart, is the better console by far, and now it gets ME2 AND ME3 later on, 2 titles which are supposed to help out xbox in its battle against ps3 , are now on ps3!! :) seriously, and look at the future, xbox 360 has around 8 exclusives planned, ps3 has around 22-25. Mass effect, welcome to the ps3!! i guess when uncharted 3 comes out, what will xbox have as its rival? nothing lolll

What an incredibly retarded post. You are obviously not a gamer, you are a platform warrior. The lowest form of idiot in the internet.

In fact, that kind of stupidity can only come from TEA so you are probably a sock account. Welcome to the ignore list.
