Bethesda Games Studios director Todd Howard’s confirmed the developer has a new project in development.

Speaking during a panel about creating blockbuster titles with RAGE producer Tim Willits and Respawn Entertainment’s Vince Zampella and Jason West, Howard confirmed the project’s been in development for two years.

He wouldn’t confirm any more details then that.

It’s been highly speculated the title Bethesda’s developing internally is a new Elder Scrolls title, one which may be an MMO -  neither of which have been confirmed.

Catch up on what happened at the event here.

I think it is a MMO if it is in development for 2 years without any coverage :D

When will you folks learn that Bethesda Game Studios DOES NOT MAKE MMOs. Zenimax Online, which is a sister company MAKES MMOs, and is currently making one.

Last year, it was made perfectly clear by Pete Hines that Todd Howard’s next project will not be an MMO. It will be a single-player RPG.

Bethesda have trademarked “Skyrim”, but nobody knows whether it is the fifth TES title or not. Might just as well be related to the MMORPG.

how about less space, more unique content. oblivion may have been larger than morrrowind but, the same dungeons and random loot gave little reason to explore beyond the tutorial. co-op is a bad idea, play borderlands… mindless fetch/kill quest wondrous role playing narrative that shite is.

intuitive character progression… less ass face… real beards… no level scaling… unlimited training…

you know I guess I don’t even care what bethesda does. oblivion was so bad I wont buy the next tes game till the goty edition is in the bargain bin.

no more MMOs please. cant see anymore how every new mmo is failing or stealing too much time and cash. better buying 5 offline-rpgs or games and having more fun without insane guild members who will kick you when you dont play 60 hrs a week. it doesnt matter if its a TES mmo or a DOOM MMO or what else….we want another fucking good offline TES experience!!!

Agreed, please no MMO for the next TES! Also please let it be more like Morrowind, a true RPG masterpiece, and not the largely disappointing Oblivion, with its repetitive landscapes and dungeons, terrible level scaling and unimaginative quick travel system….although that said I did spend over 250 hours playing it. Morrowind 350hrs+! A far superior game.

@14, you spent over 2 weeks worth playing morrowind!?

    350 hours isn’t alot in morrowind…

  17. Ulysses31

True, 350+ hours is not a great deal for a game such as that, but I do have a life outside of the virtual world! We can’t all be pure geek, as much as we’d like to!

350 hours for that awesome Morrowind? I had much more. I played it for months.

As Ulysses said that if next TES will be worse than Morrowind than Bethesda can make MMORPG and G T F O, because Oblivion is basically MMORPG with it’s endless and stupid dungeons and landscapes of trees.

If someone thinks that Oblivion is a great game, go see a doctor or start playing a Wii.

Well, I invested a meagre 2 hours a day, almost every day for 6 months playing Morrowind. That’s taken me over 350 hours so far. I reckon as far as games go these days that’s real value for money! I think we are all desperate for news of the new TES, as there is really very little else to compare and play that has the depth we are all craving. Even the brilliant Fallout 3 was not the gem Morrowind was! It really goes to show that graphics are not everything, the linear Crysis proved that, gape at the pretty vista and be amazed…I gave it 25 hours of my time and will never go back! Give me a vast and unknown world to explore and be lost in, take me away from reality Bethesda….Please!!

TES:MMO = No. MMOs are antithetical to what made TES great: The freedom you have in doing what you want, and your choices having a deeper impact on the world. MMOs really don’t have that.

Oblivion did a few things well. The melee combat got a much needed revamp; magic also got a needed boost, although speccing pure magic made most of the game too easy against its leveled monsters (Pure magic took a while to level up without grinding it, so you could blow through the game against low-leveled monsters).

Dungeons were boring. Especially in the early part of the game, where their greatest rewards anywhere (because of the leveled loot system) were a Lesser Soul Gem. The main plot and most of the other guild plots were meh. The lack of guilds, too, was bothersome.

combat was exactly the same left, right,up,down + attack/hold attack… all they did was add new animations. even worse if you consider marksmen. only thing made better was magic because you could cast with a weapon drawn and your magica replenished.

why is there a website called fallout online in which you can sign up for a beta????

    http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Fallout_Online

this could be bullshit but since theres a full on website which you can register for fallout online so if this is bethesds new game then its an MMO but its a fallout MMO

    #23 4 years ago
  24. DrDamn

    @23
That is being developed by Interplay/Masthead not Bethesda. You can read all about it here say here maybe http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Fallout_Online :). There is contention between Interplay and Bethesda over the rights to develop an MMO but I wouldn’t see Bethesda trying to do it’s own before this was resolved.
